4 Tips to Make Your Business More Likeable

Tips from Chamber Pros

People buy from people they know, like, and trust. While you might be in the right place at the right time when someone is up against it, and they may buy from you once without knowing, liking, or trusting you, for them to return, you’ll need more than luck.

Counterfeit $20s circulating in Indianola

Know how to identify a real $20 bill

Detective Luke Buhrow reports that Counterfeit $20 bills are circulating in Indianola.  The two distinct serial numbers on the counterfeit bills are MK 64756395E and ML 35602528L.

Detective Buhrow advises that when looking at the bill it would be tough to tell it was counterfeit.  Once you had it in your hand you would know.  They don’t feel like real bills and when you move it around the color-shifting ink is not there, as well as no raised printing or security thread.  These are different from what we have seen in the past.  They are not “movie money” or Chinese fakes.

Click on the link below to learn more about the differences in the bills from real money.

If you encounter someone with the counterfeit bills, call the Indianola police at 515-961-9400. Get a description, car description or plate number if possible.

As a business and as a consumer, be sure to check the bills carefully.

Safety always comes first, but here are a few things we all can do if presented with the fake money:

  • If you believe there is a threat do not confront the individual. Complete the transaction and call the police immediately.
  • If you believe there is no threat and you have the fake money in hand, indicate to the customer the money is fake and keep it. You can request another form of payment for the goods or service. It is likely the individual will walk away. You should call the police immediately.
  • If fake money is presented and the individual demands return of the fake money and you feel threatened, refuse to take it and return it. It is best not to get into an altercation with the individual. You can request another form of payment for the goods or service. You should call the police immediately.
  • In either situation, you can assist the police with the investigation if you can get the license plate of the car they are driving and a good description of the individual.

Iowa Sales Tax Holiday August 3 & 4

#ThinkIndianolaFirst

A two-day “Sales Tax Holiday” has been scheduled by the Iowa Legislature to occur on Friday, August 3, 2018, through Saturday, August 4, 2018 at midnight.

The IA Sales Tax Holiday will be on Aug 3rd & 4th. I have included in this e-mail the bulletin & listing as to which items would be taxable or not.  Because the office cannot maintain tax levels 100% of the upc’s, each store must follow these procedures to comply with tax holiday.  Here are instructions on how to take the tax off of the exempt items.

Click additional story content to view exempt and non-exempt items.
