Three Daily Verbs

Habits that apply to all of us

Follow Sinikka Waugh on her blog

As recent graduates are starting to consider the next phase of their lives, as individuals whose jobs were impacted by the changes implemented due to the Coronavirus consider what’s next for them, and as people all across the country consider what’s next for their career and how to propel themselves into success, the topic of “universal” advice comes up. What words of advice could one offer to a young person now as they start their career, that would be equally valuable to a mid-career job seeker, or a person seeking a new start in a different career?

I’ve landed on three verbs, three daily habits, that apply to all of us. These would likely be included in a commencement address, if I were ever asked to offer such a thing. So, in the spirit of the season, I offer these three ideas that, when applied daily, can help launch any individual forward in any career they choose.

Habits that make a difference

Abundance or Scarcity?

What is Your Mindset?

Bill  Cortesio
billcortesio@actioncoach.com
Are you struggling with stress, fear, and worry? Have a lot of your decisions over the past few months been driven out of panic? When catastrophe hits (whether big or small, personal or widespread), it’s easy to fall into the scarcity mindset – a pattern of thinking that focuses on what you don’t have and the belief that there will never be enough resources to achieve your goals. As a result, your actions and thoughts stem from a place of lack. Don’t let scarcity thinking become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Instead, frame your expectations through the mindset of abundance to unlock your potential and in-turn help others in our community.

Choose Mindset of Abundance

Benefits of Working with People-Supported through Christian Opportunity

Find an employee for the hours you need

Christian Opportunity Center of Indianola would like you to take into consideration hiring people-supported through our non-profit organization. Here are just a few of the several benefits of working with these individuals and/or groups:
  • Job coaching support by COC job coach who can be with the person-supported employee as much as is needed with the expectations that, as the individual gains experience and comfort with the job, the coach will gradually reduce time with the person. This also allows for the person to connect with co-workers and find natural supports in the working environment.
  • Personalized goals established for the person that help them develop and focus on specific areas that are necessary to the success of the business.
  • Job coaching is at no financial cost to the employer. Coaching is provided through outside funding.
  • Many people-supported have flexible schedules and can work as few hours as needed to accomplish their work or sometimes more hours. For example: some tasks like cleaning bathrooms, sorting items, or even packaging items may take an employer and employee away from key jobs they would like to dedicate more time to such as being more connected to customers. We have many people who are excited to take on these tasks and thereby help a business accomplish specific goals.
  • Organized transportation. The people-supported that we work with are able to secure individual transportation that ensure they make it to work.
  • Tax incentives; for more information, visit: https://www.dol.gov/odep/topics/TaxIncentivesForEmployers.htm

Small Business Resources Hub

Available to you online 24/7

The Greater Des Moines Partnership has a Small Business Resources Hub to help small businesses grow. The Hub provides a one-stop-shop for small businesses to find resources relating to legal, accounting, finance, marketing, networking, staffing and hiring, and more. The creation of The Hub was the result of research-based decision-making that helped determine how to most effectively serve small businesses in Greater Des Moines (DSM).

The Hub provides a wealth of resources and helps build on DSM’s status as a great place to grow a small business, including technology companies that would be considered high growth-startup companies.

“DSM USA has been recognized by multiple national publications as a great place to start and grow a business,” said Jay Byers, CEO of the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “The Small Business Resources Hub will help continue to strengthen and grow the small business and startup ecosystem in the region.”

The Hub is easy to use, with categories organized based on research to help determine what is most useful for small businesses and how they can best find those resources. The Small Business Resources Hub can be accessed at dsmpartnership.com/growing-business-here/business-resources/small-business-resources.

Indianola Golf Open Rescheduled to July 29

For golfers who are registered, your tee-time and all other information remain the same for a fun day at the Indianola Country Club!  Be sure to inform your team about the new date.

The great news is if you haven't registered, we still have a few tee-times available.  Contact Barb at 515-961-6269 for more information and to register.
