Indianola Chamber CEO Commits to Racial Equity

Brenda Easter, president and CEO of the Indianola Chamber of Commerce, has joined hundreds of other local businesses and organizations by signing the CEO Commitment to Racial Equity in DSM, developed by the Greater Des Moines Partnership and its Inclusion Council.

CEOs and top-level leaders of companies, organizations and public entities in the greater Des Moines region can sign on to the CEO Commitment to Racial Equity in DSM here, and their names will be included on The Partnership’s website.

Church seeks photos, stories


Join the Palmyra Church for an open house as they celebrate its 150th Anniversary. The Friends of the Palmyra Church is seeking photos and stories that share the history of this beautiful church and the community. We hope you'll stop by or participate in sharing your story of this Warren County landmark. Masks and social distancing required.

Farmer's Market open until Oct. 31

Winter market begins Nov. 7

The Indianola Farmer's Market is open Saturdays until Oct. 31, at which time it moves indoors.

From November to April, the Indianola Winter Farmer's Market will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of each month at the Warren County Historical Building at the Fairgrounds. The winter market features crafts, baked goods, handmade items, in-season vegetables and more.

Grief and Loss, What to Expect

A sense of loss, combined with the stress brought on with the pandemic, has left many people feeling sad, down, lonely and depressed. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, in collaboration with COVID Recovery Iowa, will begin offering an online program to provide education about feelings of grief and loss and how to manage and process them.

ISU Extension and Outreach will offer “Grief and Loss: What to Expect” during lunch hours. Each program will last for approximately one hour. Those dates and times are as follows:
• Thursday, Oct. 22 at 12 p.m.
• Thursday, Oct. 29 at 12 p.m.
• Thursday, Nov. 5 at 12 p.m.

To register, go to Human Sciences Events and select the program, date and time you are interested in. Participants will receive a unique URL prior to the program to access the Zoom hosted program.

Helping Hand to hold facility sale

The Helping Hand of Warren County, 109 East Clinton Ave., will host its first full facility sale on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 to 11 a.m.
 
All proceeds will go to the facility maintenance bills and to stock the food pantry.

The sale is a way for the community to come and shop to support their mission at the same time. Items will include new clothes, toys, decorations, household items and more.

Des Moines Metro Opera announces repertory for 2021 Summer Festival


Des Moines Metro Opera’s General and Artistic Director Michael Egel announced the repertory for the organization’s 2021 Summer Festival, which runs July 2-25, 2021. DMMO is excited to once again present mainstage performances of Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical Sweeney Todd, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s lesser-known dramatic masterpiece, The Queen of Spades, and Jean-Philippe Rameau’s Baroque comedy Platée, as well as a production of Gregory Spears and Greg Pierce’s Fellow Travelers as part of the organization’s 2nd Stages Series.

All 2020 ticket buyers are eligible to renew their past subscriptions or single tickets beginning February 1, 2021. New subscriptions and single tickets will go on sale on March 1, 2021. Governor visits Indianola


 

Gov. Kim Reynolds toured Indianola this week as part of her 99 counties tour, stopping to celebrate Indianola's recent designation as an Iowa Great Places community.

Reynolds saw Indianola's highlights, including the Square, Des Moines Metro Opera, Simpson College and had a hot air balloon encounter.
