SBA Extends Deferment Period for all Disaster Loans until 2022

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced extended deferment periods for all disaster loans, including the COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan program, until 2022.

All SBA disaster loans made in calendar year 2020, including COVID-19 EIDL, will have a first payment due date extended from 12-months to 24-months from the date of the note.
All SBA disaster loans made in calendar year 2021, including COVID-19 EIDL, will have a first payment due date extended from 12-months to 18-months from the date of the note.

The Iowa Statewide Tornado Drill will take place at 11 a.m. on March 24. We encourage everyone to practice their emergency/communication procedures. It is vital to know and execute your plan when seconds count. Face coverings should be worn during any congregating activities.

Tailgate Sunday Tunes at Summerset

This Sunday, Summerset Winery will host Tailgate Tunes from 2-5 p.m. Stop by for the musical offerings of the Ducharme-Jones Band.

Bring some good friends, tasty snacks, and lawn chairs, and Summerset will take care of the wine and music!
 
This special Sunday Tunes will be a little different than past events. The band will play from the front of the building, and project to the parking lot. Guest vehicles will be arranged in the parking lot. You're encouraged to set up "tailgate style" around your vehicle! Tasting, wine and beer sales will be set up outside of the winery. Admission will be limited. Reserve your spot now!

ICC reveals new menu, Friday fish specials

Traditions Restaurant is open to the public at the Indianola Golf and Country Club and offers a new spring menu featuring appetizers, salads, sandwiches and wraps, pastas and drinks and desserts. Enjoy casual or fine dining with your friends inside on white tablecloths or on the deck.
 
Fish specials are available on Friday nights.
 
Dine in at 1610 Country Club Road or to carry out call 961-3303. Traditions is open for lunch 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and dinner 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Closed on Tuesdays.

IEDA Business Recovery Survey

Survey seeks to assess impact of pandemic


The Iowa Economic Development Authority is once again partnering with the University of Northern Iowa’s Institute for Decision Making and Strategic Marketing Services to undertake a survey to assess the current impacts of the pandemic on Iowa’s businesses and nonprofit organizations.

IEDA will use the information collected through the survey to inform its continuing public policy and programming in response to the ongoing impacts of the pandemic and recovery on Iowa. The deadline to complete this survey has been extended to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24.

Spring Food Drive Underway

Easter is approaching and the Ellis Law Office is hosting its second annual food drive.

Program Gives Transportation to Veterans

 
Veterans or caregivers can call 515-961-1045 and set up the transportation with Warren County Veterans Affairs.

Additional Drivers needed

Volunteer drivers are needed to transport veterans to their medical appointment at the VA Hospital. Vehicle, gas, and lunch provided. Valid drivers license required.

Peoples Bank Scholarship

If you are a graduating senior in Carlisle, Indianola, Southeast Warren, Pleasantville, or Seymour Schools, you are eligible for the $1,000 Peoples Bank scholarship. The deadline to apply is March 31.

Des Moines Metro Opera continues with Zachary James on Broadway


When: Friday, March 19 at 7:30pm - March 31

Features bass-baritone Zachary James and Broadway pianist Charity Wicks.

The March 19 concert will conclude with an interactive online post-show reception with Mr. James.

To enhance the virtual experience, Des Moines Metro Opera will partner with the Tangerine Food Company to provide the Dinner-to-Go! package, which includes a gourmet three-course dinner with appetizer, entrée and dessert.

Get your morning workout in at the Friends of Warren County Conservation Board Osprey 5K Trail Run. Run or walk the trails of the Annett Nature Center. All proceeds benefit new educational exhibits at the nature center.

Spring Recycling Day


Highlights of the spring cleanup program are as follows:
  • Items will be picked up on your recycling day.
  • Out on the curb by 7 a.m.
  • Only large items not hauled through weekly service will be picked up.
  • No construction materials, railroad ties or tires will be picked up.
  • Items that are bulky and difficult to handle (such as swing sets) must be cut up or dismantled into pieces no longer than 4 feet.
** Please note that only the curbside pickup portion of the cleanup is currently set to happen. Electronic, appliance and hazardous waste plans are still being finalized at this time. **

Rotary Club Grants

RCDM is seeking proposals from charitable projects aligned to one of Rotary’s focus areas including: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies and improving the environment.
 
GRANT DETAILS
It is anticipated that RCDM will be awarding one or two grants annually ranging up to $5,000. This is a one-time funding opportunity. The project and expenditure of funds must occur between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022.

Deadline: Signed and completed proposal is due March 23 by 5 p.m.

Iowa Rent and Utility Assistance Program Eligibility Precheck Available


The Iowa Finance Authority announced the availability of an eligibility precheck for the new Iowa Rent and Utility Assistance Program.

The program will provide financial assistance to eligible COVID-19 impacted Iowans for rent and utility costs for a period of up to 12 months. Renters in need of assistance are encouraged to take the new Iowa Rent and Utility Assistance program's eligibility precheck.  Visit IowaHousingRecovery.com

General eligibility requirements require that applicants:

  • Be current renters earning no more than 80% of their county’s area median income.
  • Experienced a documented financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
  • Demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability which may include a past due utility or rent notice or eviction notice. If a renter received past assistance through one of the previous programs it does not impact eligibility. 

ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE

  • Rent assistance for past due and future payments.
  • Utility Payments owed at time of application (no future payments).

STEM Teacher Externships Program

Teacher externships connect students to STEM industries (science, technology, engineering and math) through the training their teachers receive at local businesses. This training enables teachers to work alongside knowledgeable industry employees, who help them bring the classroom curriculum to life.

Externships offered through this program are full-time, six-week temporary summer positions in local businesses and agencies for high school and middle school teachers of math, science and/or technology.

Teachers earn a stipend of up to $5,000 (including two paid professional development days), as well as three graduate credits through the University of Northern Iowa’s Continuing Education program.

Farm Bureau gives donation to Heal House

Because of the commitment to their local community and advocacy for rural issues, the Warren County Farm Bureau was designated a 2019 Outstanding County Farm Bureau by Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. In recognition, Warren County Farm Bureau 2019 President Adam Hill earned the opportunity to provide a $2,500 donation to a local organization or charity and has selected Heal House of Iowa to receive this award.
