Hill Country Crisis Council
Hill Country Crisis Council, a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, has been committed to serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault since its incorporation in April 1984. Initially operated by community volunteers who managed a 24-hour hotline and facilitated transport to the nearest shelter, the organization quickly grew under the leadership of a newly appointed director. Early accomplishments included the establishment of a Board of Directors, securing government funding, and acquiring facilities for shelter and counseling services. The team expanded to include various specialized roles, and services grew to encompass programs for incest survivors, school-based anti-victimization initiatives, and batterer intervention programs, extending coverage beyond Kerr County to Gillespie, Kendall, and Bandera counties.
Significant developments continued in the 1990s with facility renovations and the acquisition of an additional building for administrative purposes. A comprehensive review in 1994 led to a more efficient service delivery model, maintaining high service quality while optimizing costs. The organization also enhanced its public education efforts and expanded services to outlying counties, reducing the need for clients to travel for assistance. This period saw the addition of a school and family advocate, further broadening the scope and reach of the Council’s support network.
In 2009, Hill Country Crisis Council merged with Kids’ Advocacy Place (KAP), an established entity providing forensic interviews and support for abused children and their caregivers. This merger strengthened both organizations, enhancing client services and financial stability. The combined efforts now serve a larger area, including Kimble County, through a multi-disciplinary approach involving local law enforcement, district courts, and the Department of Family and Protective Services. Looking forward, the Council aims to expand its services and facilities, continuing its mission to provide safety, healing, and positive long-term health outcomes for future generations.
