Established in 1981 by a group of 14 determined Eastside residents amidst government cutbacks affecting nonprofits, Eastside Community Aid Thrift Shop (ECA) has evolved into a vital pillar of support for the local community in Kirkland, WA. Led by dedicated volunteers like Vice President Jody Orbits, ECA initially began with garage sales aimed at raising funds for local charities. Recognizing the increasing needs of these organizations, ECA transitioned into a thrift shop model on November 18, 1981, operating from various locations in Redmond before settling in its current Totem Lake area location in Kirkland in 2001. Over the decades, ECA has experienced significant growth in donations, customers, and volunteer numbers, reflecting the unwavering generosity and support of the community. Today, ECA's thrift shop serves as a bustling hub, welcoming thousands of shoppers annually and contributing over four million dollars in financial and material support to Eastside nonprofit organizations since its inception.
