Going Green Commitments
- Our ¡§Green¡¨ Mission
- One person¡¦s effort to conserve water and energy can make all the difference in the world. We invite you to join with us to be as ¡§green¡¨ as possible. We ask that you turn off lights and the TV when you leave for the day and leave one small light on when you go out for the evening. To conserve natural gas as well as electricity, please turn down the heat and unplug any electric heaters in winter when you leave for the day.
- Water is one of our most precious resources. Leadville¡¦s water is some of the best in the country and is pure enough that it could be bottled. It comes from two lakes which are fed by melting glaciers. Always drink lots of water when you are in Colorado to avoid dehydration and altitude sickness, but please don¡¦t waste it unnecessarily.
- Reusing your towels conserves water. It helps us use less water and energy and reduces the amount chemicals and detergents that must be treated in the wastewater. We will gladly provide clean towels if you need them. Changing simple habits; turning off the tap when you brush your teeth, filling the sink basin to shave or taking shorter showers may not seem like much, but it¡¦s the little things that make a huge difference when multiplied.
- We recycle household waste and if you wish to help us in this endeavor, you can do so by putting the following items in the small receptacle under the sink labeled ¡§Recycle Bin:¡¨ plastic, glass, newspapers, aluminum and steel cans, magazines and non-waxed cardboard. Recycled items need to be rinsed. We pay the Green Wolf to pick these items up weekly.
- Enjoy the beauty and resources that Colorado has in abundance and help us in protecting the earth¡¦s natural resources for future generations to use and enjoy. ƒº

The Governor's Mansion was once the home of former Governor Jesse McDonald and is centrally located in Leadville's National Historic Landmark District. Sharing this lovely home with you gives us great pleasure. Part of this house was built in 1881, with the mansion portion completed in 1893. Her old bones often creak when her floors are walked upon, and these same floors have had some pretty famous feet walk on them too: Molly Brown, Baby Doe and Horace Tabor, a president or two and probably Oscar Wilde when he appeared on stage at the Tabor Opera House to name a few.
Former Governor, Jesse McDonald, who sought and found his fortune in Leadville, built this big house to entertain guests as he had no children from either of his two wives. For us, sharing such an interesting house with you is why we chose to open this home to our lodging guests.
From a lodging standpoint the Governor’s Mansion is like staying in a vacation condo, only the units are part of an historic house. Tastefully decorated and furnished with antiques, our condos offer the ambiance found in a turn-of-the-century Victorian home with modern conveniences.
You'll be surrounded by the highest mountains in the Colorado Rockies where majestic scenery blends with a lively history. There is much to do during your stay including:
Skiing at nearby Ski Cooper, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail and Beaver Creek
Ice skating, sledding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and Nordic skiing on the Mineral Belt Trail.
Mountain biking for any level of expertise. World-class hiking, mountain climbing, fishing and hunting.
Shopping, dining, visiting museums or taking a self-guided walking tour in a quintessential Victorian town.
Following the route of the Silver Kings in Leadville's Mining District.
Exploring ghost towns.
Four-wheeling from beginner level to the more advanced 13,186' Mosquito Pass, the highest vehicular road in the United States.
Make the Governor's Mansion Guest Suites your home away from home when visiting Leadville.
