Director's Corner

Hello Members,
Now is the time when we are likely thinking back to this summer, when over 13,000 visitors walked into the visitor's center between June 1st and September 30th.  As we look to provide other reasons for folks to visit our community and locals to shop in the County, the Chamber is ready to involve itself and promote any winter activities that will accomplish these goals.

One of the Chamber's recent successes, the Halloween Cemetery Tours given by Judge Neil Reynolds is one example of these efforts.  The Cemetery Tours attracted around 110 visitors, and as we hoped, around 70% of these participants came from out of town and stayed overnight locally.  A HUGE THANK YOU to Judge Reynolds for his generosity as he takes no compensation for his time and efforts and instead donates 100% of the proceeds, over $1100.00, to the Chamber of Commerce.  If you see the Judge, please consider thanking him for his donation and for keeping yet another important component of Leadville History alive.

Please also see below for information on the Light the Lights event and the Parade of Lights holiday events, which will take place over the two weekends after Thanksgiving and kick off the Leadville holiday season.  We hope to build from last year's Parade of Lights success and get the word out to a wider audience to let them know that Leadville and Lake County are great places to visit during the holidays.

As always, thank you for being a member of the Chamber of Commerce and for purchasing the local products and services of your fellow Chamber members, and please continue to take an active role in shaping the future of our businesses and community.

Chamber's Holiday Activities Planned: Parade of Lights and Black Friday's Light the Lights

The Leadville/Lake County Chamber of Commerce has firmed up plans for this years Holiday Activities.  Last year's Parade of Lights was great with 22 lighted floats and vehicles, and a bundle of welcome snowfall, and we are hoping for even greater success this year.  Here are the events planned:

Friday, November 29th at 5:30pm.  The City of Leadville and Lake County will simultaneously light their holiday displays.  Businesses who have decorated will also be asked to 'throw the switch' around this time.  The City of Leadville is also planning a reception at City Hall this evening beginning at 5:30pm.  There will be cookies and hot chocolate, local live music in front of City Hall, and the City building will be abundantly decorated.  Businesses along Harrison Avenue will be asked to stay open until 7pm this evening for local and visiting shoppers.

Saturday, December 7th at 5:30pm.  The Leadville Parade of Lights.  Beginning at 5:30pm, the Parade of Lights will start down Harrison Avenue at 9th Street and continue to 3rd Street.  We hope for 30 entrants this year and we have asked Mother Nature to again provide a wonderful bit of snow for this magical evening.  After the parade Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be taking requests from children at the Courthouse and cookies and hot chocolate will be available on the Courthouse lawn.  There will also be Christmas Karaoke provided by Curt Cooper and the singing of carols in front of the Courthouse.

Please consider Entering the Parade!  Entry forms are available at the Visitor Center at 809 Harrison Avenue both inside and outside on the porch, or you can download them from the home page of the Chamber's website, www.leadvilleusa.com .

We are also hosting both a Business Holiday Lighting Contest and a Residential Holiday Lighting Contest!  Impress Leadville and Lake County with your holiday decorating skills and have your location appear on a map in the Herald Democrat that will lead holiday 'light-peepers' around town to take a look at and appreciate your holiday handiwork.  Entry forms for both the Business and Residential lighting contests are also available at the visitor center or on the Chamber's website.

Make the holidays in Leadville this year bright!  Join in with your fellow community members and decorate and celebrate as we enjoy the holidays and encourage visitors to come to our fine Victorian town and celebrate with us.
