Is visiting the nations capital on your bucket list?
Well, it's time to make it happen!
Five chambers of commerce are teaming up this May to travel back and visit Washington, D.C. This will truly be a unique, once in a lifetime opportunity for several reasons. Let me start by saying that I have personally been on this trip more than once. Some of the visited locations change each time to accommodate repeat attendees on this trip. There is so much to see and do historically, educationally, and just all out fun that one could visit for many years and have an amazing experience each time.
In addition to the attractive "tourist" aspects of the trip, the agenda is full of chamber related activities that bring great value and purpose to the trip. We always have time scheduled with our Senators and Congressman. These meetings provide excellent opportunities to ask questions and share concerns/ideas. The meetings traditionally take place in a variety of different locations; some are more formal like the beautiful U.S. Capitol, while others are more laid back like the Goddard Space Flight Center. One of my favorite memories was visiting one on one with Senator Mike Lee during the Nationals Baseball game.
Take a look at the flyer and you'll see what's on the agenda.
One of my absolute favorite items that we have included on each visit, is the private "nighttime tour" of the U.S. Capitol Building by Congressman Rob Bishop. Congressman Bishop is an absolute gem of knowledge and one of his favorite passions is the history of the U.S. Capital. This tour, as the name states, takes place at night after the daily hustle and bustle of the day's actives have in large part, come to a close. The Capital Building is almost empty while the congressman guides you through places that most people don't get to ever see. The tour is incredible and takes several hours. Plan on wearing comfortable shoes!
A new highlight this trip will be the highly anticipated visit to the United States Pentagon. Security is so tight that we've never been able to get access to the Pentagon in past trips. Senator Lee's office was able to make it happen this time. I don't know if we'll ever get back, this is a must see.
Chamber West will be acting as treasurer this year. Our chamber held that responsibility last year. Lets talk about what you can expect to pay. Your upfront out of pocket cost is $1,000. This will cover access to the venues and activities, bus transportation to specific locations and most of your meals. You are responsible for your own airfare, hotel, transportation to and from the airport, and any additional Lyft/Uber/Taxi rides that you may wish to take on your own. The group will all be staying at the same hotel. A group discount was negotiated but hotel costs in Washington D.C. are pricey.
I would plan on spending between $3,200 - $3,500. If your a souvenir shopper, you might spend more :)
Important! There is only room for 10 people from each chamber to attend. The first 10 who contact me and pay their deposit will get to go. The reason for this is because 50 (5 chambers) people fit nicely on one bus and is a manageable size for tours and meetings.
