Smart Cities require collaboration between Government, Cities, Tech Companies and Entrepreneurs. Connect with Utah's Smart City Community.

UTOPIA Fiber
has rolled out thousands of miles of reliable fiber optic cable from Tremonton to Payson. It's unique open access model means that it owns and manages the fiber optic infrastructure, then leases the lines to local private Internet Service Providers (ISPs), so you can choose whichever ISP best fits your needs. UTOPIA is a smart cities advocate and its fiber network is available for testing and deploying smart city technologies.

UTOPIA (Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency) Fiber was created by a group of Utah cities that joined together to build, deploy, and operate a fiber to the home (FTTH) network to every business and household within their communities. Its network allows subscribers to connect to the world in ways they have never experienced before, providing blazingly fast Internet speeds, phone, and television services. Using an active Ethernet infrastructure and operating at the wholesale level, we support open access and promote competition in all telecommunications services. UTOPIA Fiber’s service areas represent over 25% of all communities in the United States that can enjoy 10 Gigabit service on a publicly owned network—100 times faster than the national average of 8 Mbps.

Roger is the CEO of the open- access UTOPIA Fiber project in Utah. He is a technology management professional with over 15 years experience in telecommunications and information technology. He has been designing and building networks throughout his career in various roles including Vice President of Engineering for Vivint Wireless, CTO for UTOPIA, Network Engineer for iProvo, and Network Product Manager for Brigham Young University.

Roger earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Information Technology from Brigham Young University.

Meeting is Sponsored by UTOPIA Fiber.
