About Us

Zone4 Landscapes specializes in the unique landscaping challenges and opportunities of our Catskill region. We have formal training in both gardening and landscape design with over 30 years combined experience in creating gardens and landscapes in these conditions. Our aesthetic, environmental and technological backgrounds equip us to provide detailed plans for beautiful and functional landscapes tailored to your site. We will work with you to establish clear specifications and estimates to give you a concrete idea of the end result.

Zone4 Landscapes, based in Andes, NY, is lovingly owned and run by Mel Bellar. Mel has a Landscape Design Certificate from the renowned program at the New York Botanical Garden and a Master Gardener Certification from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Greene County. Mel is still active at both institutions, continuing his educational studies and giving lectures and workshops.

Mel brings a powerful combination of skills, talent, experience and knowledge to the leadership of Zone4 and its staff. His business philosophy emphasizes the value and importance of his hands-on participation in all projects. His creative designs are particularly sensitive to environmental/ecological concerns including using indigenous plants and avoiding invasive species and unnecessary chemicals.
