The Women of Excellence welcomes Guest Speaker Jennifer Carroll
on November 18th at Baer's Furniture from 8AM - 9:30AM. Jennifer Carroll is the former 18th Lieutenant Governor of Florida.  She was the first black American and first woman to be elected to the position of Lieutenant Governor to the State of Florida and has served the Florida House of Representatives from 2003 until 2010. She recently published a Best Seller autobiography When You Get There.  Please plan to attend to hear her inspirational story!  Breakfast sponsored by The Fountains. Ribbon Cutting for Viera Business Connections
Complimentary food and gift card raffle were featured at the ribbon cutting for Viera Business Connections, hosted at Duran Golf Club on Wedneday, Oct. 22nd. Viera Business Connections connects the best of the best businesses in Viera.

Grand Opening Celebration of Brevard Health Exchange

Brevard Health Exchange celebrated a ribbon cutting on Thursday, October 23rd at 4PM. Food and beverages were served. Guests were also asked to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the food pantry of the South Brevard Women's Center.

Ribbon Cutting/Grand Opening of NuVantage Insurance
Refreshments and giveaways were featured at the ribbon cutting of NuVantage Insurance Ribbon Cutting on Wednesday, Oct. 29th. This was a joint ribbon cutting with the Cocoa Beach Chamber of Commerce. www.nuvantageinsurance.com

Refreshments, door prizes and special promotions were featured at Blue Jasmine Boutique's Ribbon Cutting celebration on Thursday, Oct. 30th.  A Breast Cancer Awareness Event Rally also took place, with a portion of proceeds going to Breast Cancer Awareness. Local Program Brightens the Holidays for
Brevard County Seniors


This season, many Brevard County seniors who are alone or impoverished will receive some holiday cheer thanks to the Be a Santa to a Senior® program. Sponsored by the local Home Instead Senior Care® office, the program brings together area nonprofits, retailers, numerous volunteers and members of the community to provide gifts and companionship for lonely and isolated seniors.

Home Instead Senior Care has partnered with, Meehan’s Office Products, 905 Café, Southern Sister Café and Kilwins to help with the gift collection and distribution. Program officials hope to collect 400 gifts in order to help more than 200 area seniors this holiday season.
 
Participating retail locations will display Be a Santa to a Senior Christmas trees Nov. 10 to Dec. 5 that feature ornaments with seniors’ first names and their gift requests. Holiday shoppers can pick ornaments from the trees, buy the items listed and return them unwrapped (and with the ornament attached) to the store.

Do You Have 'The Missing Ingredient?'
One Senior Place event addresses the resources needed for successful aging    

 
The Sandwich Generation seminar series continues at One Senior Place with the presentation of "The Missing Ingredient" On Thursday, November 13th from 5:30-7:00 PM.  Designed for adults juggling responsibilities for aging parents while raising their own children, "The Missing Ingredient" will discuss the resources needed for successful aging and retirement. So what does one need to age successfully? A variety of resources, in addition to a nest egg.  One Senior Place will present a discussion of resources: social security income, investments, equity in home, VA benefits, long-term care insurance benefits, retirement accounts, life insurance as a living benefit, and more. The free information and strategies session for the Sandwich Generation attendees will be facilitated by Jim DeLaura, of DeLaura Financial Planning and Mike Kowalchuk, of Viera Insurance Professionals.  The pair will present real stories of challenges and success at 8085 Spyglass Hill Road in Viera.  Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

2014 Public-Private Sector Summit - Dec. 15-16
The Florida Division of Emergency Management is planning the 2014 Public-Private Sector Summit December 15-16, 2014 in Clearwater Beach. A new format is being announced for this year’s event placing an emphasis on private sector partners, communication officials and emergency management.  The Division recognizes the important role private sector partners play in all phases of emergency management. Highlighting the private sector’s role in the response and recovery of a disaster is a key component in the process. The Summit will provide valuable information to businesses of all sizes on how to prepare for a disaster, the resources available for recovery, and the role that all businesses have in emergency management.
