Shakespearean Rom-Com at Eastern Florida State College
APRIL 17, 18, 19 & 21
A shortened version of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, will be presented by theatre students at Eastern Florida State College on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, April 17, 18,19 and 21 in the Studio Theatre of the Simpkins Fine Arts Center on the college's Cocoa campus at 1519 Clearlake Road.  The first three performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream will be $5 and preceded by an improvisational showcase led by the Orlando-based SAK Comedy Lab in collaboration with EFSC's Cocoa Drama Club.  Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:00 PM, with a Sunday matinee at 2:00 PM.  The Tuesday performance at 11:00 AM is free to the public and will include only the shortened version of Shakespeare's popular comedy.  Under the direction of Jeanine Henry, Director of Theatre Arts for the Department of Performing and Visual Arts, A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.  The romantic comedy depicts sets of lovers who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set.  The EFSC production injects a 1960's "flower power" look to the set and costume design.  Tickets for A Midsummer Night's Dream are $5, except for Tuesday's free performance.  For more information, contact the box office at (321) 433-5200.

Acting students will perform 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' in the Studio Theatre of the Simpkins Fine Arts Center at Eastern Florida State College, Cocoa campus on April 17, 18, 19 and 21. Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced on April 3 that the Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD) Main Street in Melbourne has been designated the April 2015 Florida Main Street Community of the Month. Communities are selected based on their developmental achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street Program. Designated a program in 2010, EGAD has generated over $1 million from 26 public and private reinvestment projects. Their successes include 12 new businesses, 97 new jobs, and 14,526 volunteer hours. In 2006, the city of Melbourne rezoned part of a residential area of Eau Gallie as an “Art Overlay Zone,” creating the Eau Gallie Arts District. “The Eau Gallie Arts District is a particularly unique community in the Main Street program,” said Secretary of State Ken Detzner. “The EGAD Main Street community prides itself on being the creative spirit of the Space Coast.”
