RIBBON CUTTING EVENT - 5K Run/Walk for F.A.R.M. Food Allergy Resources & Mentoring
Saturday, 7:30 AM, ribbon cutting at 8:00AM
Ritch Grissam Memorial Wetlands, 10001 B. Wickham Rd., Viera, FL 32940

The F.A.R.M. 5K is scheduled for August 15, 2015 at Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands in Viera.  The 5K course is run on the senic, well maintained dirt trail through the wetlands. Proceeds from the race will support Food Allergy Resources & Mentoring (F.A.R.M.).  F.A.R.M.'s mission is to increase public awareness of the growing food allergy epidemic and to provide a voice for those who live with food allergies.  Today, 1 in 13 children suffer with food allergies.  That's roughly two in every classroom.  Through F.A.R.M.'s outreach and community events, they provide sociallyinclusive atmospheres that foster frienship and community support to those who suffer in isolation. F.A.R.M. was founded in 2014 by two parents with a child who suffers with life threatening milk allergy.  It is through their personal journey that theyare able to see and fill the void in community support for food allergies.

EAFTAC experts educate students at STEMversity
A trio of highly skilled technicians from the Air Force Technical Applications Center here traveled to Milledgeville, Ga., June 22-23 to educate and mentor area high school students.

Aptly called ‘STEMversity,’ the summer program focuses on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and gives underrepresented middle and high school youth an opportunity to conduct experiments and use precision instruments in real-life laboratories.

Maj. Allen Cohen, a mathematician, Master Sgt. Chad Taguba, a physicist, and Diana Velosa, a chemist, all members of AFTAC, made the trip from Patrick AFB to the Wilkes Building on the campus of Central State Hospital, a stone’s throw from Georgia College and State University near Macon.  The Air Force awarded AFTAC $10,000 to help fund student attendance and pay for associated costs.

This year’s students learned about analytical chemistry, drug forensics and how to properly operate professional instrumentation – most of which are usually reserved for upper-level college students.
