Sloth Skedaddle set for February
Sloths aren’t exactly known for their speed, but that won’t stop hundreds of locals from zipping through Brevard Zoo for a “Sloth Skedaddle” on February 13. Organized by the Running Zone Foundation, the Sloth Skedaddle will be the tenth annual race held at the Zoo. Proceeds from the events have thus far raised about $57,000 for the Zoo’s animal care and conservation programs.

“We started with Buzzard’s Bait in 2007 and haven’t looked back,” said Michelle Smurl, director of animal programs at the Zoo and a co-organizer of the 3k. “Attendance has climbed almost every year. The Foundation does a fabulous job with these races; they really are fun for everyone whether they’re running or not.”

Runners may compete in one of two races: the “ZOOM” (for runners who can finish in under 20 minutes) at 7 a.m. or the “LESS ZOOM” at 7:35 a.m. A free “kiddie run” follows. Participants can register online and pick up their packets ahead of time at Running Zone or register from 6-6:45 a.m. at the Zoo entrance on the day of the race. All runners will be entered in a drawing for two one-day passes to Walt Disney World and a one-night hotel stay. Participants receive 50% off Zoo admission on the day of the race (race number required).

Registration is $30 for adults and $15 for children plus a $3 registration fee. Registration is now open at
www.runningzone.com/series/zoo
