Harris Corporation Selects Welsh Construction For Renovation Project
Harris Corporation, a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest employers in Brevard County,  selected Welsh Construction of Melbourne to renovate offices at their Palm Bay campus at 2400 Palm Bay Road, NE.
 
The project included the renovation of 3,000 square feet of office space to laboratory usage and will be completed in April.

League of Women Voters of the Space Coast Hosts Timely Topics Luncheon
RSVP by March 14th for League of Women Voters of the Space Coast's Timely Topics Luncheon, "Citizen's Climate Lobby - Creating Political Will for a Sustainable Climate" on Saturday, March 19, 2016, 11:30 AM at the Holiday Inn, 8298 N. Wickham Rd. in Viera. Guest Speaker is Desta Horner, founder of the Seminole County chapter of Citizen's Climate Lobby.  Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization working to create the political will in Congress to pass legislation to reduce carbon emissions from fossil fuels.
 
There are CCL Chapters in all the Congressional districts in the U.S.  as well as all provinces of Canada and in many countries around the world advocating for effective climate legislation.  CCL believes that a revenue neutral carbon fee and dividend is a bi-partisan solution that would effectively address carbon emissions, while not relying on a complex regulation approach.

U.S. Navy Selects Modus Operandi to Develop Pattern-of-Life Analysis Software to Help Predict Adversarial Behavior and Intent
Modus Operandi, a company that delivers data discovery, integration, and Big Data analytics solutions for national security and commercial organizations, has been selected by the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) to develop an activity-based intelligence system that will help spot unusual behavior by adversaries.
 
Under terms of the $1.5 million Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract, Modus Operandi will combine its expertise in semantic analysis with scalable graph analytic methodologies and information fusion to develop innovative pattern of life analysis software. The software solution, called POLIS (Pattern Of Life Integrated System), will analyze large amounts of intelligence data represented as large graphs to find behavioral patterns that may indicate malintent.

BACK TO WORK 50+ at Eastern Florida State College
Share the news! Eastern Florida State College helps women return to the workforce
 
A successful program pairing Eastern Florida State College and the AARP Foundation to help train women age 50+ with new job skills and help them get jobs is opening its doors to more participants.
 
The BACK TO WORK 50+ Women’s Economic Stability Initiative will hold summer information sessions on Wednesday, June 8 from 9-11 AM on the Cocoa Campus, and on Wednesday, September 7 from 9-11 AM on the Melbourne Campus.

Sea Turtle Healing Center Releases ‘Steve’ in Melbourne Beach
Staff from Brevard Zoo’s Sea Turtle Healing Center released Steve, a juvenile green sea turtle Tuesday, February 23 in Melbourne Beach. Steve had been at the Center since November, when he was rescued and transported by Sea Turtle Preservation Society. He was found near Point Canaveral with fishing hooks embedded in his flippers. The Zoo is home to the only sea turtle rehabilitation facility in Brevard County.
 
Green sea turtles are listed as endangered by International Union for Conservation of Nature; major threats include egg harvesting, loss of beach habitat and entanglement in fishing nets and line.
