Over 55 Thousand Packages of Food Delivered
The Children’s Hunger Project, a local charity that provides weekend packages of food for kids that teachers know are coming to school hungry on Monday mornings, has announced that 55,957 packages of food were delivered during the 2015-2016 school year.  This tops the charity’s previous record of 48,234 packages delivered during the prior school year.

In addition to food deliveries during the school year, thousands of additional packages of food will be distributed during the summer as the charity, with support from Project Hunger, works with the Feed and Read program of United Way.

According to Executive Director Bob Barnes, “This milestone represents the efforts of hundreds of volunteers who are always ready to do the work needed to help our local kids plus the financial generosity of the community.  Our partnership with United Way and Project Hunger plus the ongoing delivery support of the Central Brevard Sharing Center enables us to address the growing and critical problem of Brevard’s kids being hungry and undernourished.”

Sponsors Wanted For School Supply Giveaway Event
Brevard Schools Foundation is seeking sponsors for its annual Back to School Giveaway Event on July 30, 2016 at Clearlake Education Center in Cocoa.  Corporate sponsorships range from $1,000 to $10,000 and come with corresponding levels of benefits.  Individual donations are recognized beginning at $25.  Sponsorships help offset the cost of providing school supplies to children in need.  The Foundation needs close to $20,000 to cover the expenses for this year.

“We want every child to be able to start school prepared and ready to learn with the pencils, papers, rulers and supplies they need,” said Janice Kershaw, Executive Director of Brevard Schools Foundation.

At last year’s event, free backpacks and supplies were distributed to nearly 1,600 of those children.  This year, Brevard Schools Foundation will have enough supplies to serve 2,000 pre-qualified students.

For more information, visit www.brevardschoolsfoundation.org or contact Elizabeth Schreiber at 321-633-3660 ext. 301 or Schreiber.Elizabeth@Brevardschools.org.
