Time running out for chance to win $50,000 at Chopper Dropper March 24

ANNUAL FLORIDA TECH FESTIVITIES AT SUNTREE COUNTRY CLUB

Time to revise the saying that “close” only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. It also counts in Chopper Dropper.

On March 24 at Suntree Country Club, the closest golf ball to the pin will win someone the $50,000 grand prize as Florida Institute of Technology holds its 14th Annual Chopper Dropper.

Only a handful of tickets remain for the popular event, which is a key part of the university’s biggest fundraiser for athletics scholarships, the annual Sporting Affair XXV, which also features a golf tournament, food and drink, and more. Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $100 each.

Tickets for Bindi Irwin event now on sale

Award-winning conservationist, media personality, actress and author Bindi Irwin will visit Brevard Zoo on Saturday, April 29 to speak about her “remarkable” animal adventures and passion for wildlife.

The 18-year-old Australian, daughter of “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin, has made a name for herself through numerous animal-centric television shows, films and books. In the United States, she is well known for winning season 21 of “Dancing with the Stars.”

“Bindi and her family have inspired millions, including many of our own staff,” said Keith Winsten, the Zoo’s executive director. “This is a must-attend event for animal lovers.”

The event runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. A limited number of tickets, which are $50 for Zoo members and $60 for the general public, can be purchased at www.brevardzoo.org/bindi. A portion of each ticket sold will benefit the Zoo’s animal wellness, conservation and education initiatives.

The Henegar Center announces the 2017-1018 season

The Henegar Center’s 17th season will include something for everyone.  A mad, revengeful barber, a young orphan, some rockin’ nuns, a trip to Vegas, and a romantic look at Madison County will grace the main stage of The Henegar Center.  Upstairs at the Henegar boasts all female leading ladies.  “It’s the time of women and their empowerment,” says Hank Rion, Artistic Director.  “Women are speaking out all over the country right now; we should hear their voice on stage, too.”

The new season will feature five main stage shows and three shows in the black box. The Henegar Center’s commitment to bringing life to the old and new has been a focus for many years.

Indian River Colony Club Day proclaimed by Brevard County Commission

IRCC turns 31 and is congratulated for patriotism, community service
A group of seniors at a Brevard County Commission meeting is nothing new.  But the well-dressed group from Indian River Colony Club in Viera weren't there on Tuesday, March 7 to weigh in on a political matter.  Rather they were there to represent the 1300 residents of the Viera 55+ neighborhood on Murrell Road and Viera Boulevard and to receive a special proclamation from the Brevard County Commission.  Shortly after the meeting began, District 4 Commissioner Curt Smith acknowledged the assembly and read aloud the official government document:

  • RESOLUTION Whereas, the Indian River Colony Club (IRCC) was the first residential community to be built in the vast land area owned by the Duda Family; and, Whereas, the developers of IRCC had the goal of creating a community where military officers and their families could afford to enjoy the rest of their days in comfort and relaxation; and, Whereas, IRCC now consists of a sizeable community of military officers and others who have served in many of our Nation’s wars and reflect the highest possible standards of patriotism and dedication to Country; and, Whereas, ...
