End of summer brings 50% off admission to Brevard Zoo
To celebrate the end of summer, Brevard Zoo is halving the price of general admission for one day only on Wednesday, August 9. The Zoo opens daily at 9:30 a.m. and its newest exhibit, Lands of Change: Australia and Beyond, opens at 10 a.m.
As always, children under the age of three will be admitted at no charge. The promotion is open only to Florida residents and may not be combined with any other offers. All adults must present a state-issued photo identification card or utility bill with address.

First “Pickets for Parks” Installed at Riverview Park
The City of Melbourne’s first “Pickets for Parks” have been installed around the new playground at Riverview Park.
Pickets for Parks gives park lovers and generous community supporters a chance to help accelerate planned park improvements at Riverview Park by purchasing a customized engraved picket. Each picket costs $100, and funds raised will be put toward the installation of the decorative fencing and new restroom facilities for playground visitors. Since the program began last year, a wide variety of community members, families, small business owners, churches and nonprofit organizations have purchased pickets that are now part of the Riverview Park playground fence.
“We are proud to be a Play Melbourne Parks & Recreation partner and to have the opportunity to support the revitalization at Riverview Park,” said Lilly Marshall, owner of River Oak Dental.
“As a downtown business owner, I believe in beautification and revitalization and realize the positive impact it has in our community,” said Kyle Graham, owner of Millefiori Skin Care and member of the Melbourne Mainstreet Board of Directors. “We are thrilled to be able to contribute to the revitalization of Riverview Park and continue to shape our community as a destination for people to live, work and play.”

Islands Fish Grill's Summer Artist Series
Islands Fish Grill presents Renee Decator as featured artist at its upcoming Summer Artist Series event on Wednesday, August 23. What is the Summer Artist Series? It's where local artist come in and give a talk, presentation, or lead a discussion about their art. Afterwards the artist joins guests for a 4 course wine dinner in the restaurant's "Wine Cellar on the Beach". They limit the size of the dinners to insure lively conversation between guests. The cost of the dinner is $65, $120 for a couple, or $50 for dinner without wine parings. More information is available on facebook, and those interested can RSVP by calling 321-956-0559.

VNA Space Coast receives back-to-back 5-star rating in patient satisfaction
VNA Space Coast Home Health recently received its second 5-star rating this year by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid’s (CMS) ‘Home Health Compare’ in patient satisfaction. Home Health Compare provides the public information about the quality of care and patient satisfaction provided by “Medicare-certified” home health agencies throughout the nation. VNA also received a 4.5 star rating for quality of patient care, a category measured by nine criteria ranging from timely initiation of care to improvement of pain interfering with activity. The star-ratings were designed by CMS to empower patients to make educated and informed decisions when it comes to choosing a home health care provider.

Take Stock in Children is Seeking Sponsors for 5th Annual Reach for the Stars Gala
The Take Stock in Children program, a part of Brevard Schools Foundation, is hosting its 5th annual Reach for the Stars Gala on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club in Indian Harbour Beach. Sponsor support ensures the Take Stock in Children can fulfill their mission of helping low income, at-risk students break the generational cycle of poverty by providing mentoring, education, and a 2 year college scholarship to make higher education possible for these children. Donations for scholarships are matched by the Florida Prepaid STARS foundation.
The Take Stock in Children of Brevard program has a 100% high school graduation rate of those enrolled in the program. Along with the success of students involved in Take Stock in Children, the Brevard program has earned Gold Level standing, the highest award available for the past two years for their impact in the lives of children.
Gala attendees will enjoy a beautiful venue, social networking, and delightful cuisine along with a silent and live auction featuring special guest appearances.
