Business Voice Political Committee announces Brevard Business Survey

Business Voice Political Committee is conducting a survey of businesses from across the Space Coast as part of their preparations for the 2018 elections. They invite businesses of all sizes - from independent contractors to large corporations - to articulate what state and local policies are most concerning them.   The data will be used by Business Voice as they conduct interviews with candidates running for state and local elections in 2018 and then produce a voter guide for the public.  The 11 question survey will be open until the end of February.

Jeff Corwin coming to Brevard Zoo
Internationally renowned conservationist, media personality and author Jeff Corwin is set to appear at Brevard Zoo’s Safari Under the Stars, one of Brevard County’s most popular and beloved fundraising events, on the evening of Saturday, April 28. The celebration is presented by Flammio Financial Group, a private wealth advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. The general public will have the opportunity to attend a ticketed presentation featuring Corwin in the morning; more information about that event will be released soon.

Senator Hukill's School Visitation Bill passes Senate floor

Senator Dorothy L. Hukill’s (R-Port Orange) bill allowing State Legislators to visit schools in their local districts passed unanimously on the Senate floor today.
 
Senator Hukill’s legislation, SB 118, provides the opportunity for elected officials to meet with their youngest constituents, and the teachers guiding them, in their district schools. The bill, titled Visitation of Schools by State Legislators, allows for local representatives to listen to concerns, answer questions, and see what challenges teachers face daily. Visitation to schools will also provide the opportunity for teachers, counselors, administrators, and staff to communicate personally with their representatives.

Goodwill celebrates another successful year of serving Central Floridians

Goodwill Industries of Central Florida marked another successful year in 2017 by providing more than 47,500 people with resources and training to help them find meaningful work, opening two Job Connection Centers, and launching a range of new programs, including an effort to provide jobs for homeless families.  

Goodwill also placed more than 8,100 Central Floridians in jobs, including many young adults through the new “Learn to Earn” program. In addition to its Operation GoodJobs program for homeless veterans, the nonprofit launched a new program called “Forward March,” with a grant from the Westgate Resorts Foundation.

Brevard Schools Foundation announces Awards of Distinction honorees

Seven philanthropic individuals, businesses and/or organizations were honored at the 2018 ABC Awards Applauding Brevard’s Champions on January 24, at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne. 

Brevard Schools Foundation began the ABC Awards in 2012 as a way to celebrate teachers, employees, administrators, volunteers and business partners of the year that support the mission of BPS with outstanding contributions.  Foundation Awards of Distinction were added in 2014 to recognize those who have made a significant difference in the lives children with their private support.

Axiom Bank, a leading community bank headquartered in Central Florida, is starting the new year with four new faces on its Board of Directors. Kathryn Pemble, Charles Johnson, Gary Hopkins and Vernon Braddock became Directors on Jan. 5, 2018.
  • As former President of C1 Financial in Tampa and current President of Baldwin Pemble Advisors, Pemble brings 30 years of commercial banking experience to the Board.
  • Johnson is a 45-year veteran of the commercial finance industry who specialized in asset-based lending. He most recently served as a director of Magnolia Financial, Inc. in Spartanburg, S.C.
  • Hopkins has 30 years of consumer loan operations, collections and call center experience. His most recent position is Executive Vice President of Student Loan Operations for GC Services in Houston.
Braddock, a long-time Axiom employee and past President and CEO of Metro Bank, the predecessor bank of Axiom Bank, has 40 years’ experience in financial institution and regulatory practice.
