Butterflies, baby goats to headline Brevard Zoo exhibit

After a three-year absence, butterflies are fluttering back to Brevard Zoo with feathered, furry and scaly friends in tow.

Dubbed “Butterflies and the Magic of Nature,” the exhibit will feature hundreds of native butterflies, colorful birds, a massive snapping turtle, training demonstrations, hands-on nature play activities and other enchanting attractions.

“Much of the natural world feels like the stuff of magic,” said Michelle Smurl, the Zoo’s director of animal programs. “This exhibit explores the science behind phenomena like metamorphosis, migration, camouflage and pollination in a fun and innovative way.”

The exhibit’s biggest stars may be month-old Nubian goats Violet and Lily. These floppy-eared creatures quickly won Zoo staff over with their sweet, playful personalities.
Presented by Hope and Brian Fisher, Butterflies and the Magic of Nature will run from Saturday, May 26 to Sunday, September 30. Entry is included with general Zoo admission.

Melbourne Regional Medical Center Welcomes Dale Armour as New CFO

Melbourne Regional Medical Center has named Dale Armour as its new chief financial officer. Armour comes to Melbourne Regional from Rush Health Systems in Meridian, Miss., where he served for the past seven years in several executive capacities.

Coming to Florida is a homecoming of sorts for Melbourne Regional’s new CFO. “I’ve worked in Florida before and it’s great to be back,” said Armour, whose career path has taken him to hospitals in Destin, Naples and West Palm Beach. “Melbourne and the Space Coast region have so much to offer, including outstanding quality-of-life factors.  I’m excited to be part of the team at Melbourne Regional and with Steward Healthcare. They are committed to enhancing healthcare for the communities they serve, and so am I,” Armour said.

“We are excited to welcome Dale to our community and Melbourne Regional Medical Center. Dale brings an incredible amount of experience that fits perfectly with the vision and excellence that Steward Health Care brings to our hospital,” said Ron Gicca, president of Melbourne Regional Medical Center.

Retirement, again.

Third time’s a charm, yes?  For Rosemary Barton, co-owner of Seniors Helping Seniors in-home care this may be the fourth or fifth.  She is the epitome of an active senior, continuing to give back to her community.  Will retirement stick this time?  Time will tell.

Promising three good years to her daughter and co-owner, Jennifer Helin, she has finally decided to go into retirement after six years in the business.  “Well, semi-retirement” says Rosemary.  While she is looking forward to spending more time with her husband and family, traveling and quilting, she still isn’t ready to walk away entirely.  “I really enjoy some of the meetings I attend and would miss being part of our community involvement.  There are so many ways I can still be involved, without being tied down to a set schedule.  Seniors need to remain active, and I am convinced about this more every day.  It is important to have a purpose, something to get out of bed for”.  We’re sure that whatever lies ahead for her, Rosemary will continue to be an inspiration to all those she meets.

Axiom Bank, N.A. introduces three new credit cards

Axiom Bank, N.A. is listening to its customers’ requests for expanded services and products and is now offering three new credit card options to meet those needs. This is the second product debut this year by the Maitland-based community bank, which introduced the AxiomGO mobile app designed specifically for the new checkless checking account in January.

“With the launch of these credit cards, we’re providing an opportunity for customers to build credit, receive cash-back rewards, or find a lower rate for their credit purchases,” said Daniel Davis, President and CEO at Axiom Bank.

Customers can pre-qualify for the Cash Rewards World MasterCard, Platinum MasterCard or Secured MasterCard with a few taps on their smartphones. All of the cards offer chip technology, price protection and 24/7 customer service. For a minimum deposit, the Secured MasterCard allows customers to begin building a credit history. A full list of features can be found online at https://www.axiombanking.com/personal/credit-cards .

”As Axiom Bank continues to expand across Florida, we want to provide our customers with every opportunity to take control of their finances,” said Perry Barbee, Senior Vice President and Fair Lending Officer. “It’s a natural progression to offer credit card options tailored to their financial needs.”
