Brevard Zoo receives generous contribution from RCI Optics
Right Coast Independent (RCI) Optics, a premium sunglass brand based in Cocoa Beach, demonstrated their commitment to conservation through $10,000 recently awarded to Brevard Zoo’s Restore Our Shores (ROS) program. ROS uses oysters, mangroves and seagrass to restore living shoreline in the Indian River Lagoon, engaging community members in the process.
The gift consists of proceeds from raffle tickets sold at RCI’s annual partner fishing tournament, which was sponsored by Cayo Boatworks, Yamaha Outboards, SeaDek Marine Products, Skinny Water Culture and Florida Beer Company, on Saturday, August 4. The lucky winner received a boat and trailer donated by Cayo Boat Works, Yamaha and RCI.
“The entire team at RCI Optics is beyond excited to partner with Brevard Zoo to do our part in preserving our home waters,” said Troy Scott of RCI. “Everyone had a great time at the 2018 RCI Optics Inshore Invitational Tournament and we hope to raise even more money next year. A huge thank you goes out to all the volunteers who donated their time and energy!”
New applications now being accepted for Housing Authority and Babcock Street Advisory Boards
The City of Melbourne is currently recruiting interested citizens to serve on two key advisory boards: Babcock Street Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Committee and the Melbourne Housing Authority.
• The Babcock Street Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory (CRA) Committee advises City Council by preparing and recommending plans or changes to redevelopment projects within the Babcock Street CRA corridor. Applicants must be registered voters who live in the City of Melbourne or are engaged in business in the Babcock Street CRA. The committee meets on the fourth Wednesday every other month at 8 a.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber.
• The Melbourne Housing Authority is responsible for the acquisition, lease, construction, reconstruction, improvements and operations of federally funded housing projects within the City. Applicants must be registered to vote and live within the City of Melbourne. The board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:15 a.m. in the South Area Housing Administrative Office at 1401 Guava Avenue.
Volunteer board members provide vital input to the Melbourne City Council on important local issues and have the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way to their community.
