Holiday Happenings coming to Brevard Zoo
Central Floridians are invited to celebrate the holidays at Brevard Zoo with Holiday Happenings, an annual series of events presented by the Zoo’s corporate sponsors.
Jolly Days, which features animal encounters, games, crafts and a DJ, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on December 21–23. During this time, keepers will present some of the animals with “gifts” and other seasonal enrichment items. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. during Jolly Days.
Guests can ring in the new year without staying up past anyone’s bedtime at Noon Year’s Eve, an event on December 31 that features a ball drop and a complimentary juice toast. Both Jolly Days and Noon Year’s Eve are included with Zoo admission.
The Zoo’s education department is offering programs for children of various ages on December 8, 10, 11, 14 and 17. Winter camps are open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade from January 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
Through December 21, Florida residents receive a 25% discount on most Treetop Trek courses beginning before noon with the coupon found at www.treetoptrek.com.

Brevard Schools Foundation seeks sponsors for the 8th Annual Applauding Brevard’s Champions (ABC) Awards
Brevard Schools Foundation is seeking sponsors for the upcoming 8th annual ABC Awards to be held on January 23, 2019. Each year, Brevard Schools Foundation Applauds Brevard’s Champions at the biggest educational event of the year – The ABC Awards. In red carpet fashion, the Foundation, in partnership with Brevard Public Schools, showcases the outstanding contributions of those who help strengthen the quality of public education in Brevard County including Teacher of the Year, Employee of the Year, Volunteers of the Year, Business Partners of Distinction, and Administrators of the Year. Honorees from each school and other guests are treated to a reception featuring “A Taste of Brevard Public Schools’ Culinary Arts Programs with live entertainment at the reception and on the mainstage of the King Center. Sponsorships support these special recognitions and provide a way to say thank you to those in service to our children. Community Credit Union has supported the event as the top sponsor from the beginning. Many other sponsorships are available.

COMMENTARY: Our Cardboard Christmas Tree

Holidays are tough for me. I used to love Thanksgiving and Christmas, but some difficult times fell upon my family and I found myself separated from the joy I once knew. Maybe you find this season difficult as well, or maybe you are a sucker for Hallmark-esque Christmas tearjerkers like my wife. Either way, I’d like to share a little story about how my hardened heart found some healing after great tragedy.
