Brevard Zoo celebrates moms and dads
In recognition of Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 12 and Father’s Day on Sunday, June 16, Brevard Zoo is offering big savings to parents visiting with their families.
On Mother’s Day, moms accompanied by at least one paying child of any age will receive free admission to the Zoo. They can also take 50% off the Canopy Walk, Challenge Reloaded and Zip Only courses at Treetop Trek. Dads visiting on Father’s Day can also benefit from the same discounts.
To take advantage of these offers, which may not be combined with other promotions, tickets must be purchased in person on the respective holiday.
Local couple makes donation to fund college for students in the Take Stock in Children program
Brevard Schools Foundation is pleased to announce a $16,000 donation from Mike and Rashmi Shah. This gift will provide funds to purchase Florida Prepaid Scholarships for students in the Brevard Schools Foundation Take Stock in Children Program. The Shah family has been a long-time supporter of the Brevard Schools Foundation, and their donations have assisted with several programs including Take Stock in Children, ABC Awards, and The Supply Zone.

Sustainability specialist joins Brevard Zoo team
Brevard Zoo is expanding its commitment to “growing a greener world” with its first-ever sustainability program manager. Sarah Burke will focus on reducing the Zoo’s environmental footprint while promoting sustainable actions both internally and within the community.
After earning her undergraduate degree in zoology from Colorado State University, Burke worked as a nutrition and enrichment manager at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium for 10 years. She then pursued a master’s degree in sustainability at Saint Louis University, writing her graduate thesis on sustainability within zoos. Most recently, Burke worked for the University of Nebraska at Omaha as a sustainability coordinator.
“Sustainability is just another way of practicing wildlife conservation,” said Burke. “By furthering our green culture here at the Zoo, we become stronger advocates for the environment and serve as a resource for the people of Brevard County.”
