City seeking general/building contractor to serve on Historic and Architectural Review Board

The City of Melbourne is seeking applicants interested in serving on the Historic and Architectural Review Board.  The current opening is for a member who is a general or building contractor.  Melbourne residency is preferred but is not required. All applicants must be registered to vote.

The Historic and Architectural Review Board is a quasi-judicial board that recommends local historic designations and regulates and administers historical, cultural, archaeological and architectural resources in the City of Melbourne. It also considers material changes in the exterior appearance of existing buildings located on non-residential property in the city’s three redevelopment districts.

Interested applicants should complete an application and submit it to the City Clerk’s Office along with a brief resume.  For more information, please contact the City Clerk's Office at (321) 608-7220 or city.clerk@mlbfl.org.

Brevard Zoo beats the heat with Arctic Blast Tuesdays

There’s nothing quite like summer heat in Florida, and Brevard Zoo plans on helping its guests stay cool with Arctic Blast Tuesdays.

Every Tuesday in June and July at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., Zoo staff will place two or three 300-pound ice blocks in the Paws On “play lagoon,” a shallow water play area. This activity is included with general Zoo admission.

“The kids are thrilled by how large these ice blocks are,” said Andrea Hill, director of marketing and communications at the Zoo. “They melt quickly in the heat, so you’ll want to be there as soon as we put the blocks in the water!”

Treetop Trek offers summer savings to college students

This summer, college students are invited to make the most of their time off by saving big at Treetop Trek. Between June 1 and August 30, the nature-based attraction will offer 30% off the Canopy Walk, Challenge Reloaded, Black Diamond and Zip Only courses to all guests with a valid college student ID. This offer may not be combined with other discounts or promotions.
