Brevard Zoo receives donation from RCI Optics

Brevard Zoo’s Indian River Lagoon restoration efforts are getting a financial boost thanks to Right Coast Independent (RCI) Optics, a premium sunglass brand based in Cocoa Beach. Earlier this month, the Zoo’s Restore Our Shores (ROS) program was the beneficiary of a $11,500 donation—marking the second year in a row the Zoo has received such a gift.

This donation consisted of proceeds from raffle tickets sold at RCI’s annual Inshore Invitational fishing tournament on Saturday, August 3. The event was sponsored by Boaters Exchange, Cayo Boatworks, Gator’s Dockside, LIVE Watersports, RCI Optics, SeaDek Marine Products, Skinny Water Culture and Yamaha Outboards. The winner of the raffle received a boat.

“Our partnership with RCI Optics has allowed our local conservation efforts to flourish,” said Jody Palmer, the Zoo’s director of conservation. “We have a tremendous amount of gratitude for RCI Optics for yet again aiding our efforts to improve the lagoon.”

City seeking volunteers to represent Melbourne on Transportation Advisory Committee

City of Melbourne residents interested in local transportation issues are encouraged to consider serving on the Citizens Advisory Committee of the Space Coast Transportation Organization. There are currently openings on the committee for members who will represent the City of Melbourne.

The Citizens Advisory Committee is composed of 24 members who represent a broad cross section of citizens interested in the development of an efficient, safe and cost-effective transportation system. The committee provides citizens’ views and recommendations to the Space Coast Transportation Organization’s Governing Board on projects, plans and programs.

Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at 9:30 a.m. at the Viera Government Center. Exceptions are January, June, and August, which have no scheduled meetings.

Interested applicants should submit a brief resume to the City Clerk, 900 E. Strawbridge Avenue, Melbourne, Florida 32901. Applicants may also e-mail city.clerk@mlbfl.org.

Sponsors wanted for the 6th Annual Hoot in the Park

Florida Wildlife Hospital is seeking sponsors and vendors for the 6th Annual Hoot in the Park at Wickham Park on November 23 from 10am - 2pm.  This is a free, dog and family-friendly, fundraising event.  There is an opportunity for attendees to have their dog run a lure course, meet our ambassador animals, and start their holiday shopping. We have convinced Santa to stop in again this year while on vacation to have a few photos taken with dog and kids.  This is a great opportunity to reach new customers since we had about 800 attendees last year.  You may call 321-255-2213 for more information.
