Brevard Schools Foundation Take Stock in Children Program Needs 10 Mentors

The Brevard Schools Foundation Take Stock in Children (TSIC) program is actively seeking 10 new mentors to serve middle and high school students in the South Brevard area (Eau Gallie, Melbourne and Palm Bay).

Take Stock in Children is a unique dropout prevention, college readiness and mentoring program that provides the opportunity for aspiring low-income Brevard County public school students (in grades 7-9) to earn a college scholarship. Students are matched with a volunteer mentor, and must commit to remain drug and crime-free, maintain a 2.5 GPA and pass mandatory state tests.

Mentors are caring adults with “more to give.” Mentors meet with students once a week and provide the needed encouragement, guidance and support to help students realize the dream of a college education. All mentoring takes place at school, during school hours. Upon completion of high school and TSIC program requirements, students will receive a 60 credit hour tuition scholarship to attend a Florida Prepaid approved university or state college.

To donate, volunteer or to learn more about becoming a mentor with Take Stock in Children please contact Mentor Coordinator, Camille Guerrero at 321-633-1000 X 11415 or guerrero.camille@brevardschools.org or visit http://brevardschoolsfoundation.org/mentor

Legends 2019 - Five Community Philanthropists to be Honored on October 30 at Space Coast Convention Center

The spirit of giving is a very beautiful and tangible part of the community vibe in Brevard County.  The third annual Hospice of St. Francis Legends Generosity Awards scheduled for Wednesday, October 30 will celebrate the generosity of spirit demonstrated by honorees Lisa McAlpine, D. Travis Proctor, Mike and Rashmi Shah, and the legacy of Hospice of St. Francis’ founder, Emilie Sasko (deceased), now carried on by the board, staff and volunteers of the organization.

“Strong communities possess a spirit that threads its quiet way throughout the entire population, calling people to give and get involved in making their hometown the best it can be. At Hospice of St. Francis, we understand the concept of generosity. We see it in the giving heart of a volunteer, the caring touch of a nurse, and the ways in which families rally around their loved ones at this precious time. Generosity is the hallmark of what we do and it is a value that we honor in others,” said Joseph S. Killian, President and CEO of Hospice of St. Francis.

The Legends Generosity Awards are open to the community.  Individual tickets and Sponsorships at various levels are available. Tickets and/or sponsorships may be purchased online via the following Web link: LEGENDSAWARDS2019.EVENTBRITE.COM, or by calling the Foundation for Hospice of St. Francis at 321-360-3456. The event is relocating this year to the Space Coast Convention Center to allow for expanded seating.
