Business Voice Political Committee Announces Endorsements of Descovich and Susin

Business Voice Political Committee Board of Directors voted this month to support Tina Descovich and Matt Susin for reelection to the Board of Brevard Public Schools.

“At a time of such uncertainty, school board experience and an understanding of the budget complexities are essential considerations for this year’s election,” states the committee’s Chairman, Larry McIntyre. “Brevard Public Schools is planning its reopening in the fall, facing a near $13 million deficit, and future funding concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe Matt and Tina will continue to work successfully with the other board members for the benefit of students, parents, teachers, and the entire community.”

Business Voice conducted online interviews with all the candidates, in addition to written candidate surveys. Candidates that demonstrated they are prepared to make the tough decision, set policy, and oversee the Superintendent’s implementation across the organization is key to the group. As the largest employer on the Space Coast, Brevard Public Schools employs roughly 9,300 teachers, administrators, and other staff members. With a budget of approximately $650 million and serving more than 73,000 students, those decisions have the potential to affect the Space Coast as a whole.

Brevard Zoo voted one of North America’s best zoos, top in Southeast

Readers of USA Today’s 10Best website have selected Brevard Zoo as one of the top zoos in North America. The Zoo, which came in fifth place overall, was the highest-ranked facility in the Southeastern United States and the only Florida zoo to make the list.

“Our Zoo isn’t as big as some of the others on the list, but what we lack in size, we make up for in immersive exhibits, one-of-a-kind animal experiences, and a commitment to wildlife locally and around the globe,” said Keith Winsten, the Zoo’s executive director. “We are grateful to the readers of 10Best for their support, and we hope this draws more attention to Florida’s Space Coast.”

“This is such an incredible honor for us to have one of our gems listed in a top 10 national poll like this,” said Peter Cranis, Executive Director of the Space Coast Office of Tourism.  “It is a testament to the vision and hard work the Zoo staff and community have put in to make our local Zoo truly one of the best in the country.”
