About Live Oak Art Center
Live Oak Art Center
Welcome to the Live Oak Art Center (LOAC), a beacon of artistic expression nestled in the heart of Columbus, Texas. Established with a steadfast commitment to promoting the fine arts, expanding art education, and enriching cultural experiences, LOAC is housed in the historic Brunson Building at 1014 Milam St, where admission is always free, welcoming both locals and visitors alike.
At LOAC, we take pride in our rich permanent collection, thoughtfully curated exhibitions, and a spectrum of community education programs. Our exhibition calendar unfolds with approximately 10 distinct showcases annually, featuring a captivating mix of established and emerging artists from across the state. With a focus on diverse media, our exhibitions stimulate conversations, captivate audiences, and embody our mission of encouraging artists and fostering creative inquiry.
The Live Oak Art Center has a storied history, dating back to the formation of the Live Oak Art Club in 1954. Initially meeting in the Live Oak Hotel's kitchen, the group's dedication to the arts eventually led to the acquisition of the Brunson Building in 1986, generously supported by Emma Hay. Thanks to the benevolence of The Wade Family Foundation, significant restoration efforts were undertaken in 2016, breathing new life into the Brunson Saloon and Whiskey Warehouse. Further funding in 2017 facilitated the refurbishment of the galleries and the creation of The Courtyard Wine Bar, ensuring LOAC remains a dynamic hub for classes, workshops, summer camps, and art exhibitions for the Columbus community and its visitors.
As we celebrate our past, revel in the present, and look toward the future, LOAC invites you to explore the vibrant world of visual arts with us. Join us in our mission to increase access to, appreciation of, and participation in the arts—where artists thrive, audiences engage, conversations flourish, and creativity knows no bounds.
