Now we can more effectively highlight the things we do in the community all year long, like:

• Our restoration efforts of the historic White Sulphur Springs Ranch.
• Our White Sulphur Springs Ranch Living History School Day Program.
• Our Work Experience Program where we partner with Portola High School to provide outside work experience for students.

The new website is loaded with information about the history of White Sulphur Springs Ranch (WSSR) and the Mohawk Valley Stewardship Council (MVSC).  Here are just a few of the new features offered on our new website.

COMMUNITY CALENDAR
This new Community Calendar is linked to the Eastern Plumas Chamber of Commerce community calendar.  Events posted on our calendar will automatically post to the Chamber's calendar and then to the PlumasEvents.com calendar, providing a more complete listing of events in the community and the county.
 
OUR BLOG
Our new "Blog" provides a place where you can discuss things like the restoration of White Sulphur Springs Ranch.

RANCH MEMBERSHIPS
MVSC still has the individual and family membership program, but now it is called the "Ranch Membership" Program.  If you currently have an individual or family membership, there is nothing for you to do.  Your membership will simply have a different name now.  If you are interested in more information about Ranch Memberships and how you can support MVSC, visit the website.

BUSINESS MEMBERSHIPS
In addition to “Ranch Memberships” we have added the new “Business Membership” category.  Business Memberships provide unique marketing tools to help promote your business.  This is a great opportunity and value for any business but particularly for small to medium sized businesses that need to effectively balance their time between work and marketing their business.  To learn more about a Business Membership, visit the Business Membership page on the website.

RECOGNIZING OUR SUPPORTERS
One of the most important improvements to the new MVSC website is the ability to publically recognize those who support us.  We now have both an "Event Sponsors" page and a "Business Sponsors" page to more effectively recognize our supporters.  The Event Sponsors page lists individuals and/or businesses that have donated time, merchandise or money in support of fund raising events to benefit the restoration of the WSSR.  The Business Sponsors page is dedicated to our Business Members.  Visit our Business Sponsors page to see how we connect our business members to the community and the community to our business members.

In 2012 the Mohawk Valley Stewardship Council (MVSC) was awarded a planning grant from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, an agency dedicated to reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfires in the Sierras, to develop a fuels reduction plan for the White Sulphur Springs Ranch.

In order to develop this plan, the MVSC hired a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) and a hydrologist to analyze hazardous fuels conditions on the property.  The RFP developed a timber harvest plan for the property and the hydrologist conducted surveys of the sensitive hydrological features on the property that will be protected during the fuels reduction work. The next step will be to seek implementation funds to reduce fuels on the property and to make the forest more resilient to wildfire.
