Latino Community Reports -OCHLA

Each year the Latino Affairs Commission compiles reports on topics relating to Ohio’s Hispanic community.
Our reports are designed to educate and facilitate discussion on particular challenges and opportunities facing Hispanic Ohioans.

Whenever possible, Latino Community Reports include data specific to state legislator districts and counties.
For some Latino Community Reports, however, it isn’t possible to find and cite data at the county or district level.
The Ohio Latino Affairs Commission endeavors to be a valuable resource to state government in understanding and serving the Hispanic community.

Please call Andrea Magaña Lewis at 614-728-8364 for further information and to help with outreach.

Here is the list of topics and dates for the 2017 Business Builder Summit:

February 23- Diversity & Inclusion
April 20- Entrepreneur Toolkit

August 24- HR

The Diversity & Inclusion Summit features interactive and dynamic opening and lunch keynote panel speakers including, Dr. Shanda Gore,  Jay Black, Director of the Minority Business Development Center, Jeffrey Johnson, Chief, State of Ohio Minority Business Development Division, Susan Graalman, Vocation Manager, Cherry Street Missions, Evelyn McKinney, Community Impact, United Way of Greater Toledo, David Abalos, Past President, Northwest Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber's goal is to foster meaningful discussions on diversity and inclusivity, as a priority in business and community. Courageous conversations to feed our fundamental need to belong; from our place of business to our place of residence.

Diversity and inclusion is an issue which has evolved significantly in the past few years, from an emphasis on racial diversity to an emphasis on diversity of ideas and experiences. Most major companies have diversity and inclusion programs, although these often vary in scope and can focus on different things.

Some examples of diversity and inclusion initiatives which are fairly representative of the field include:
                • Targeting new hiring to reflect the customer demographics (especially in international markets, this could include age, origin, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation)
                • Hiring someone who comes from poverty with varied economic backgrounds with potential challenges that the employers need to consider
                • Promoting company resource groups based on age, origin, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation
                • Encouraging employees to put forth their ideas for new products to be considered by upper management
