ServiceMaster Clean Press Release (10/06/11)
ServiceMaster Clean Awards Shane Battier Franchise Scholarship to Peter Mason of Phoenix
October 06, 2011 // Franchising.com // MEMPHIS, Tenn. — ServiceMaster Clean announced today that Peter Mason has been awarded one of the company's distinguished Shane Battier Franchise Scholarships. Selected from hundreds of applicants, Mason completed a 1,500-word essay detailing how he would utilize the ServiceMaster corporate objectives in his business. The Shane Battier Franchise Scholarship allows individuals interested in starting their own business an opportunity to be awarded their own commercial cleaning franchise license – a $31,900 value.
″What drew me to ServiceMaster Clean was their commitment in helping others improve,″ said Mason. ″They believe in helping you grow, building diverse work groups and supporting franchise owners. They value you as a franchise owner and that is very important, especially just starting out.″
The purpose of the Shane Battier Franchise Scholarship is to expand the ServiceMaster Clean franchise ownership base among women and minorities throughout the United States. Championed by professional basketball player and former Duke star, Shane Battier, the program was designed to help individuals overcome some of the obstacles of starting and running their own business by becoming a part of a franchise organization.
″We recognize that, beyond being good for our business, reaching out to expand ownership opportunities for minorities and for women is a very meaningful way for us to live our faith-based corporate mission,″ said Michael Isakson, president and chief operating officer of ServiceMaster Clean. ″That is why we have committed to diversity in our franchise network.″
As part of its continuing pledge to diversity, business development and community outreach across the United States, ServiceMaster Clean has committed $1.3 million over four years in direct grants and private financing to its Shane Battier Franchise Scholarship initiative,
Currently residing in Phoenix, AZ, Mason looks forward to operating his franchise in that area and building his new customer base with his commercial janitorial services. Mason earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Howard University and masters of business administration from the University of Phoenix. He formerly served as the logistics and transportation manager for the worldwide FedEx system. In his role Mason planned and executed strategies, managed drivers handling large loads, coordinated and managed daily truck movement, performed and analyzed monthly audits, and much more.
″My goal is to create diverse work crews which encourage people with different backgrounds to offer a wide variety of opinions on improving the operation,″ added Mason. ″I will strive to meet ServiceMaster Clean's commitments by caring about people and building relationships. For me, being honest, responsible and passionate in all I do in this business is key in providing best-in-class service to my customers and associates.″
