About Us
Since our founding in 1977, our mission at Hospice of the Valley has remained the same: bringing comfort and dignity as life nears its ends, working with patients and families to improve quality-of-life and make each day meaningful.
In our 30-year-plus history as a not-for-profit organization, Hospice of the Valley has become recognized nationally as a leader in hospice care — achieving our vision of setting the standard of excellence for end-of-life care.
Hospice of the Valley is a leader in hospice care for many reasons, including:
- Our award-winning clinical staff and leadership.
- Our robust education programs that teach professionals and the public about quality end-of-life care.
- Clinical programs that provide leading-edge care for cancer, dementia, congestive heart failure, and pulmonary disease.
- A host of innovative programs and services to address community needs.
- In-depth bereavement support with programs to help loved ones through the process of grief.
- 24/7 on-duty care
Our Care Approach
A team of professionals – doctors, nurses, social workers, nurse's aides, pastoral counselors and volunteers – delivers integrated care, usually in the patient's home. We assist each patient and their family with end-of-life transitions, and help our patients stay pain-free, comfortable and fully engaged in their lives as much as possible.
Our Funding
Hospice of the Valley receives 92 percent of its revenue from Medicare, 4 percent from donations, 3 percent from insurance companies, and 1 percent from private pay patients. No one is ever turned away because of financial need.
Our Governance
Hospice of the Valley is governed by a community board. Susan Levine, a veteran nurse and tireless advocate for quality end-of-life care, has served since 1994 as executive director.
