Not many companies reach a milestone such as their 100th year in business. Marking a century of successfully serving policyowners, agents and hardworking employees is something we at Illinois Mutual are very proud of accomplishing. Now that our centennial year is near completion, it’s time for us to focus on the next 100 years, and that means starting fresh. While 2010 was a celebratory year for our company, it was also a challenging financial year - one of the toughest we’ve faced. Like many other companies, we were met with a delicate economy, fluctuating interest rates and the reality that we would have to take a step back in order to take bigger steps forward. That meant making some hard decisions, but doing so with direct intent and dutiful purpose, and always keeping our longstanding commitment to our policyowners in mind.
As a result of the purposeful decisions we have made throughout the year, the Company is more financially sound today than we were at this time one year ago. In fact, Illinois Mutual remains the well-managed, integrity-based Company it has always been. We have our sights set on growth and continued operational profitability. With more than 200 of the hardest working, most skillful employees you’ll ever meet, we’re confident in our ability to meet these goals. With the largest of obstacles now behind us, we can move forward stronger and better than ever because of it.
Most importantly, policyowners and agents can feel confident the Company will continue to meet our obligations as we have for the last 100 years. As a mutual company, we are solely focused on the interests of policyowners, which enables us to have a long-term strategic view where we can build on our already strong financial position. Illinois Mutual will continue to manage and strengthen operations to achieve the greatest level of efficiency, while providing the outstanding service for which we are known. We understand these are challenging times, and remain dedicated to evaluating every aspect of our business with a clear focus on making continuous improvements that create value for our policyowners, just as we always have.
So, with a fresh start, we’ll begin the first year of our next century in business with a brighter future than ever before - because at 100, we’re just getting started. The best is yet to come.
