About Us
A Riverside Cottage is beautiful self-catering vacation home on the banks of the Feather River in Oroville CA.
Tree-shaded lawns run down to the rivers edge where a floating dock, riverside pathway and the cool river await exploring guests. Romance comes naturally in this serene riverside environment.
The Riverside Cottage is a completely furnished 2 bedroom two bath home. It has a fully-equipped kitchen with dishes, pots and pans, silverware, a gas range with overhead microwave, dishwasher and disposal. It has pass-through breakfast bar into the living area. There is a great-room with panoramic river views, and a sliding glass door to the river with access to and attached deck with an umbrella table and gas grill. A Riverside Cottage is available for family vacations, honeymoons, weekend get-aways, local family visitors, and executive business travelers. Several downtown restaurants are within a few minutes drive from the B&B.
The owners, Larry and Merrily (a husband and wife team) left high intensity careers in Washington DC to, live in a beautiful place and participate in a small community. Larry, who had a career as a Nuclear Submarine Officer and R&D Oceanographer, is the cottage manager. Merrily, an erstwhile Dean at the University of Maryland, now has the “day job” as a full-time on-line professor of Anthropology and she still finds time help-out around the Cottage.
Nature abounds at Riverside. Riparian song-birds, waterfowl, wading herons and egrets and birds of prey provide a continuing series of natural vignettes to entertain nature-aware guests. Beaver are frequently seen about their ever-busy constructions, slapping their tails with great splashes to warn off unknowing intruders. Muskrats can sometimes be seen wiggling their way across the river and occasionally river otters cavort and play along our banks. In the evening and through the night, a wide variety of local critters make their way down to the river. Raccoons leave their litter of crayfish shells along the bank and deer are often seen in the morning mist.
The Oroville Wildlife area provides miles and miles of open access to great fishing spots. Guests can fish for the beautiful Feather River Steelhead year round and huge King Salmon during the summer months in the river. Lake Oroville 10 minutes away provides sport with Largemouth Bass, Coho Salmon, trout and catfish.
Riverbend park, just across the river, offers disk golf, fishing ponds, picnic areas, swimming beach, a boat launch and kayak rentals. There is easy access to 35 miles of mountain bike trails. Nearby, Feather Falls is a 640 ft. waterfall in pristine wilderness. Nature reserves like Grey Lodge and the Sacramento River Refuge are within minutes for birdwatchers. For the sportsman, wing-shooting for waterfowl and pheasant is also locally available.
