About Payson Fruit Growers
Payson Fruit Growers
Payson Fruit Growers is a family-owned business rooted in tradition and founded in 1964. Located in Payson, Utah, their Monties Tart Cherries are grown in orchards at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains, benefiting from the region's winter snow run-off and valley wells. The annual summer harvest has become a cherished tradition, where the entire community, from young to old, comes together for a critical three to four-week period to pick the cherries. Their optimal location for cherry growing, combined with Utah's hot summer days, results in Monties with a higher natural sugar content, making them a delightful treat.
Originally a co-op of family farms, Payson Fruit Growers began with Montmorency cherries, known for their tartness and vibrant color. However, with the changing market in the 1980s, the business seized the opportunity to experiment with dried cherries. Their unique Montmorency cherries, firm and intensely red with surprising sweetness, proved to be a hit. Recognizing the potential, they ventured into the dried fruit market, offering dried tart cherries that were not only delicious but also versatile, perfect for incorporating into various culinary delights or enjoyed as a wholesome snack. Today, Payson Fruit Growers continues to uphold their commitment to quality, family values, and innovation while celebrating their deep connection to the land and community that have shaped their journey for generations.
