March 2016

President's Corner

Hope Everyone enjoyed a terrific Easter with your family and friends.
I'm sure those of you with children who have been on Spring Break are glad to have them back in school!

Tonight is the Mixer at The Moon Saloon. It looks like many people will be attending, so you won't want to miss it. They are extending their Happy Hour to 7:00 pm for us and offering drink specials and half price appetizers. Grab a handful of your business cards and come join us!

Next Tuesday the Networking breakfast is here at the Chamber office. I am looking to make major changes in our Networking Breakfasts format, and this will be your opportunity to offer suggestions for changes. I have spoken with several members already and received some excellent ideas, but before the final decision is made, I would like some additional input. Please make it a point to join us Tuesday morning.

Our first Social Event is at Gogh Paint next Wednesday. The details are in the right-hand column, bring your friends and a couple bottles of wine and enjoy a great evening!

I want to make sure everyone is aware of two pages on our website that are being under used. Members can offer e-coupons for any specials at their business. You will find a button at the bottom of each page to click on to post your coupon.

The second page found under the "Members" tab is our "Local Job Board". If you are looking to hire any new employees or have a specific position you need filled, take a minute and post it on our job board. We are giong to being promoting this on a regular basis, so place your open position today!

Until Next Week...

Peoria Welcomes The Mission at Agua Fria

And a lovely Groundbreaking Ceremony it was…
You may have seen hard hats and shovels if you passed by the Southwest corner of 107th & Olive the morning of Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Owners, Engineers, and local Dignitaries gathered to witness a new state-of-the-art senior living community being born!

The Mission at Agua Fria will accommodate 32 Assisted Living and 58 Memory Care private residences, on a rental basis, in a 2-story structure totaling 73,865 square feet on a vast 7.2 acres.

The new community is anticipated to open around March, 2017. As well as from Peoria, residents are expected to be drawn from nearby areas such as Youngtown, Glendale, Surprise, Sun City, Sun City West, and Phoenix.
Look for details about The Mission at Agua Fria in the coming months ahead.

Habitat for Humanity Renews Old Town Peoria

Habitat Home Projects Under Construction
Habitat for Humanity helps to make homeowners of local families with moderate incomes.  In the Old Town area of Peoria, Habitat is helping to make neighborhoods into a community.  Habitat currently has four new homes under construction in Old Town.  Each of the parcels where the homes are being built was most recently a vacant dirt lot.

With the four homes under construction, Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona has now constructed or renovated more than 90 residences in Peoria.  Habitat's purchases for future projects include vacant lots for new structures and older homes which are completed renovated, inside and outside.

The Habitat model toward affordable home ownership relies on community volunteers and the eventual homeowner in the construction of new residences.  Homeowners must be willing to contribute hundreds of hours of sweat equity towards the new home construction, as well as attend workshops leading to successful homeownership.  The relationship between Habitat homeowners and their community has proven to be a very strong one in Peoria.  The homes are maintained showing pride in ownership, and the families stay put to grow in the community.

Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona serves Maricopa and Pinal counties, and it is one of the largest and most active of the organization's affiliates.  They have constructed more than 1200 homes, serving more than 2000 families.
