June 2016

President's Corner

Hi All!

One week from today we will be holding our 97th Anniversary and Community Awards Banquet.  If you haven’t made your reservations, you really should plan to attend.  It’s going to be a great evening with some special entertainment, a little history on Peoria and the people who founded it along with the presentation of awards to individuals and companies who have made exceptional contributions to the Peoria Chamber and the City of Peoria.

I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening party at Modern Round last Thursday in the P83 district.  It’s located in the old Fox & Hound building and if you were ever in there you would never recognize it now.  What an AMAZING place!  It’s a virtual shooting range with extraordinary technology that makes you feel like you are actually firing a gun, but without the noise or bullets.  You can play games, shoot at targets or be in real life situations where you determine the best way to react - but it better be quick!  The food is great and there is a wide variety of libations – plus these people really know how to throw a party.  I’m looking forward to spending some time there with my friends and family.

I went with Chuck Strange and Nikkie Byers last week to pass out the Luke Bags to the service people who rotated in this month to Luke Air Force Base.  A wonderful experience and I felt privileged to shake each person’s hand, learn where they have rotated in from and thank them for their service.  There was a large group who have just come back from Korea, some from Afghanistan and then a host of other places.  It was quite an experience.  They seemed very appreciative of the bags, so I highly suggest you put something in the bags from your business next month.

Rumor has it the heat this weekend is going to be staggering.  Please make sure your pets have water and if you have elderly neighbors maybe touch base with them to make sure they are ok.

by Nikkie Byers

Millennials have taken over! They are the largest generation. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are more Millennials than Boomers by almost a million (April 2016). This means a huge dollar sign to businesses, small and large.

So how do you target them? What can you do to make them want to buy from you or do business with you?
