Weekly Newsletter 7/13

July 2016

President's Corner

We made it!!  Ruby Rojas and I somehow managed to get this newsletter out in spite of both of us being way over our heads on the software that puts it all together.  I want to thank Ruby for not killing me, as I’m sure I made her absolutely crazy during the whole process!

Yesterday’s luncheon featured Patrick McDermott from APS discussing where electric rates and energy generation is looking like in the future.

I know I personally learned a great deal and having lived here since 1980 discovered a great many things I thought saved energy around my house actually were raising my bill.  So my family will now make a few minor adjustments to our lifestyle and energy consumption and watch our bill just plummet……well maybe not plummet, but every little bit helps.

Patrick is available to speak to your civic organizations and he’s free – free is always a good thing!

If you ride a motorcycle and feel like a short ride tonight (Thursday), Chris Lucidi at Lucidi’s Distillery is hosting a Bike Night at Historic Fire Station No. 1 in Old Town Peoria from 6pm to 9pm.  The address is 8307 W. Washington in Peoria.

If you know anyone who is looking for a job or seeking a better job the Peoria Chamber, City of Peoria and Goodwill of Central AZ are having a big job fair today from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at Peoria High School.  It’s free to both employers and the job seekers so you might want to pass on the information.  Peoria High School is located at 11200 N. 83rd Avenue.

I’m proud to announce the hiring of Geoffry Sheridan who will be our new Membership Manager.  You will start to see him at all our events, as he gets to know our members.  For those of you who belong to a variety of networking groups, I would really appreciate if you would invite him as a guest to start meeting people in the West Valley.

As always here’s another push for “Meet Your Member’s” materials.  200 to 300 words about what makes your business special or why someone should call you over another business.  If you don’t have time to write it, call me and we’ll chat a bit and then I’ll write it for you.  It’s FREE advertising.

If you have not set up your Traffic Catcher Page that comes with your membership, you are missing out on a great opportunity to generate business.  As of this morning, here are our website stats: since January 2016 until today our website has had 1,001,961 Member Directory Exposures and 50,176 Member Directory Searches.  With 7,485 TCS Page views with click throughs to the member’s website.  This is included in your membership – shouldn’t you be taking advantage of it?  Call me and I will help you get it done!

How to use trends to your advantage.

If you haven’t heard of Pokemon Go yet, you probably live under a rock. This particular app has taken the world by storm in just 6 days. The app is used more than Tinder, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, and Instagram (Huffington Post.) It generates about $1.6 million in revenue PER DAY just from the Apple store (Forbes.com.)

So what does this mean for your business?  “As a local business, you can help users flock to your store by utilizing in-app purchasing Lure Modules, a unique feature of Pokémon GO. Once purchased, Pokémon will flock to the PokéStops for a 30-minute period. Trainers will see flower petals on the map to indicate more Pokémon are being lured to the area. You can exploit this foot traffic by offering promotions and discounts for patrons or customers who visit your business to collect Pokémon” (1seo.com.)

This is a virtual realty game bringing people outdoors, on long walks, exploring areas they might not have visited otherwise. This is a great concept to get more foot traffic to your brick and mortar.  Some businesses were lucky enough to have Pokemon or Pokestops right in front or near their businesses already. Most are near landmarks, State parks and mountains, Church’s, etc. It’s a great way for businesses to interact with their audience (see picture.)

Whether or not this fad will soon burn out, take advantage of it while it lasts. We’re seeing stories of hackers, robbers, and accidents occurring because of this game, but it can be a great business model.

And always: Please do not play Pokemon Go and drive!
