Happy Monsoon!
As I walked out to lunch today I heard the familiar sound of the locusts singing – a sure sign the humidity and the monsoon have arrived. Hopefully mother nature will share some of the rain with the West Valley because we really need it.
I’m hoping for a solid turnout at tomorrow’s
Ribbon Cutting at Lake Pleasant Real Estate – this new member was a
referral to the Chamber from Vice Mayor Bridget Binsbacher so I’d like us to make a big impression. If nothing else, swing by the Chamber for
Nikkie Byers’ Ice Cream Social at 4:00 and then head out for the Ribbon Cutting that takes place at 5:30.
I had the pleasure this morning of meeting
Lisa Beaman from Arizona Christian University. They will be housed in the Huntington University building. Their focus is on adult evening classes to help the people who started college and never had the chance to finish…you know that old “having to support a family and pay my mortgage so I better get a job and finish school later” thing. Classes will be twice a week in the evenings. If you’re looking to upgrade to a degree, this is worth looking into.
POSSIBLE PROBLEM OR SMALL BUSINESS SCAM
I had a luncheon yesterday with the 5 other Chamber Presidents from the West Valley and Julie Brooks from the Wickenburg Chamber shared the information below. It seems a law firm out of Phoenix is sending letters to businesses threatening to sue them for ADA non-compliance and then turning in the business. They’ll be happy to drop the suit if the business wants to settle – sometimes for as much as $3500. Several Wickenburg merchants have already been threatened with a law suit.
Here is a link to an article on azcentral:
Phoenix-area activists, businesses go head-to-head in flood of Americans With Disabilities Act lawsuits! http://azc.cc/2a4n1k6
It’s not a joke and they are getting away with it, so if you get a letter don’t just toss it in the garbage!
You’ll see a
thank you from Gina Sheets from Banner Lakes Imaging in the right hand column. It was really nice of all of you to reach out to her when her husband underwent serious heart surgery. I guess this must be why we refer to our fellow members as family. Nice job people!
Don’t forget to sign up for your booth at the
Biz to Biz Trade Show Expo on August 25th from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Wigwam Resort.
Tables are only $150 until July 31st then they go up in price. Last year there were over 85 vendors and over 500 people walked through. Not bad business exposure for $150. Click on the flyer to the right and it will take you to the registration site.
