November 2016

President's Corner

Hi Everyone!

Well wasn’t last evening an interesting one?  At least now all the horrible campaign commercials will stop.  Now let’s get to the business at hand on uniting our country and moving forward in a productive manor.

I want to thank all the sponsors of the Wine & Cigar event – especially Ambassador Cigars for supplying all the cigars for everyone’s enjoyment.  Another special thanks to the individuals and their companies who donated our silent auction gifts.  It was their generosity that pushed us over the top and produced the money to fund the 2017 Scholarships for the JROTC cadets.

Thanks too to our member Palmbrook Country Club for helping us put on this wonderful event.  Christine, the Director of Catering and Events, took great care of us and her assistance was exceptional.

On a “in case you’re a golfer” note, Palmbrook will be hosting “An Evening with Gary McCord” on December 8th at 6:00 pm. Gary is a professional golfer and a regular commentator on most of the major PGA tournaments. The event is open to the public and if you’d like to attend call 623-977-8333 x100 to register.

I had the pleasure of attending the ASU West Campus Community Board breakfast this morning and learned some amazing things about Arizona State University.  The total enrollment for all campuses is 98,000 students with 26,000 of them being on-line students comprised of millennials and many working individuals looking to expand their educations.  ASU is currently ranked 11th in the nation for on-line enrollment.

Congratulations to ASU for receiving the #1 Innovative University in the Country for the second year in a row, ahead of both Stanford and M.I.T.  Well Done!!

November 10 (tomorrow) is the Peoria Police Department’s 4th Annual Fuel Dreams from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Fry’s Store located at 8375 W. Deer Valley in Peoria to raise donations for the Special Olympics of Arizona.  If you need gas, make it a point to stop there and fill-up and support their efforts.

November 26th is Small Business Saturday.  If you would like posters or other marketing materials to bring awareness and promote this day to your customers, we have all kinds of things at the Chamber office for you to pick-up.  We will be bringing materials to our events but if you are not able to attend, stop in to the office and pick up something to show your support in your business.
