President's Corner

Happy Hump Day!

We held our first Networking Breakfast at our new location Tilted Kilt yesterday morning.  There were 28 in attendance with a host of new faces.  Hillary Dempsey the new GM at the Tilted Kilt (who by the way is our latest new member) made us all feel very welcome and served up a fantastic buffet breakfast of eggs and bacon with biscuits and gravy.  It was a great way to start the day making new friends and business connections.  Come join us on January 3rd for our next breakfast.

The PCC Rush last Wednesday at Slicks Garage was AWESOME!  Raina, our host, provided some tasty food and we all selected from a wide variety of adult beverages.  The turnout was between 18-20 with several people coming and going throughout our time there.  What a very cool place this is, you really need to come in and check it out. It’s a retro-motorcycle theme with a great big Harley in the middle of the room. Raina herself is usually there, so when you stop in for lunch, happy hour or dinner, introduce yourself to her and tell her how happy we are to have her business in Peoria and as a member of our Chamber.

Our PCC Rushes are continuing to grow at each event.  Our next one will be in January and we will be selecting a Chamber member’s business for lunch.  Join us if you can; it’s fun, we support a member and enjoy time with our fellow Peoria business leaders in a relaxed, congenial atmosphere. You’re going to eat lunch anyway, so why not join all of us?

Next Wednesday, December 14th is the Chamber Holiday Luncheon at Arizona Broadway Theatre.  We have a great program planned for you.  First, we will hear about a wonderful organization called Homeless Youth Connection.  This is an organization that works to meet the needs of homeless youth who want to stay in school so they can graduate. They provide a great service that I’m sure you are not aware of how badly it is needed.  Go to www.hycaz.org to learn more about them.

Also planned for our luncheon is a performance from Arizona Broadway Theatre from an upcoming show and then the piece de resistance: a song fest from the award-winning Sunrise Mountain High School Choir.

Did I mention the door prizes?!  I guarantee you will leave our luncheon filled with the Holiday spirit and the patience of a saint to go shopping with!

Southwest Veterans Chamber of Commerce

The SWVCC and the Creek Patio Grill are hosting an Army-Navy Game Party at the Creek Patio Grill 28244 Tatum Blvd (NW Quadrant of Tatum and Dynamite) this Saturday December 10th, beginning at 11:00 am.

This will be a great opportunity for Veterans and non-Veterans alike to come together for spirited camaraderie and friendly competition. The game starts at 1:00 pm, but, just as we often do while attending games in person, we will begin our festivities with a "Tailgate Party" at 11:00 am.  The Tailgate Party will be held inside though, and out onto their beautiful and functional patio.

There will be a $5.00 cash fee to cover appetizers for the Tailgate Party.

Attendees will be asked to register and to declare which team they are supporting. As a means to raise funds for the Southwest Veterans Chamber of Commerce and its Foundation programs, we will collect a modest donation from the opposing team supporters with each score: $1.00 for each touchdown and 50 cents for field goals and safeties. For example, if Army scores a touchdown, we will pass a donation bucket for each Navy supporter to contribute $1.00. In the case of field goals and safeties, the donation will be 50 cents. So...please bring plenty of $1.00 dollar bills and quarters.

All profits will support the Programs of the SWVCC and its charitable arm, the Southwest Veterans Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Wear your service logo clothes or colors if you have.

Peoria Adds Vibrant Murals Along
Happy Valley Road

The West Valley Arts Council (WVAC) in partnership with the City of Peoria selected 16 West Valley teen apprentices to participate in the 2016 Galley 37 program.

Through this amazing program, the young artists attended a 7-week program at Estrella Mountain Community College earning each of them 6 college credits. During this time they designed, conceptualized and fabricated two vibrant murals to be installed along Happy Valley Road in Peoria while learning valuable career and life skills. Each mural holds a symbolic meaning to the very land they are installed on.
