Help Peoria's Youth

Homeless Youth Connection was founded in 2010 to meet the needs of homeless teenagers in the West Valley.  Our mission is to meet the basic needs of these teenagers who are homeless through no fault of their own, so they can stay in school and graduate.  If we take away the teen’s worry about whether they will have food, warm clothes and a safe place to sleep at night, they can stay focused on school and graduate.  We partner directly with the high schools to provide services to the students at school.

Since its inception, HYC has grown from serving one school and a handful of students, to where we are now in 2016:  we currently serve 43 schools in 11 districts.  We offer the homeless youth we serve a full spectrum of services including basic needs, case management, mentors, life skills, counseling. Our solution to the housing need is the Host Family Program that pairs students with a family that can house the youth for the duration of their high school career. This program allows the student to be in a much more normal family setting. The Host Family program is also much more cost effective than a shelter or group home.

Currently, we serve nearly 40 students in the Peoria area alone. This number will likely double by the end of the school year.   The need for services in the area continues to grow, and we need even more support from our Peoria community.  You can help these teens in a number of ways including financial support, volunteering to be a mentor or learn more about becoming Host Family.  We are also in need of board representation from the Peoria area, so if you are a business leader interested in learning about this opportunity, please call us for details.

December Lunch Entertainment

We had some great entertainment at our December lunch to include the Sunrise Mountain High School Varsity Choir and Rob Watson from Arizona Broadway Theatre!  We want to again thank everyone who attended our luncheon as well as our wonderful performers!

The Sunrise Mountain High School Varsity Choir is part of the Peoria Unified School District. It consists of students in 9-12 grade and participation is by audition only. This choir rehearses on Fridays after school for two hours. This means that students do a tremendous amount of work on their own and are individually motivated towards excellence.

All members are also required to participate in a choir class during the school day and many participate in multiple performing arts. They are driven, hardworking, and love to share their passion for music and storytelling with anyone who will listen!
