Harmonie Stone: a master in her field
By Jo Ann M. Colton, Staff Writer
Harmonie Stone is truly a master in her field. But what sets this highly qualified acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist apart from others is her intuitive sense of touch and a healing intensity that she believes can only be considered as a divine gift.
At 17, while massaging a friend’s sore neck, Harmonie was startled to realize an all-knowing extrasensory perception when she touched the sore muscles. The epiphany led Hamonie to attend The Detroit School of Swedish Massage and receive her Massage Therapist Certification in 1973. Because Harmonie always felt she was destined to be a researcher, she never imagined that massage therapy would lead her to a career in Acupuncture and Oriental medicine.
With a BS in Zoology from Michigan State (1979), she worked as a microbiological researcher for five years. But after being in the field for only six months she discovered working with people was far more her passion than research.
In 1985 Harmonie earned her Masters degree in Psychology (Antioch University West). Eventually Harmonie resumed work as a massage therapist. She also taught Swedish massage therapy and classes in anatomy, nutrition, and psychology for three years at Boulder College of Massage.
In 1986 Harmonie Stone opened up her own business, Golden Wellness, Inc., in Golden, Colorado and then relocated it in 2005 to its present location in Pine Junction, Colorado.
Although Harmonie’s mother always thought her daughter’s vocational path might lead her to a career as a pharmacist, it was eastern remedies not western medicine that held Harmonie’s interest. In 2000 she realized a dream of a lifetime when she traveled to China to learn firsthand about Chinese herbs. For five weeks she interacted daily in the mornings with an eastern doctor and received the benefit of his 20 years of experience and knowledge. While also accompanying him on his hospital rounds she was able to see some of his patients (including children) on multiple occasions and actually witnessed the positive results of their Acupuncture treatments. In the afternoons she expanded her learning experiences by attending extensive Chinese herbs classes that detailed how to use and incorporate them to treat a myriad of western conditions. Harmonie also participated in Tai-ji classes in the park with a Master instructor who taught her a series of movements that creates “qi” (chee)—flowing energy that is vital to keeping the body’s organ systems in optimum balance.
Supplementing her ever-increasing knowledge of eastern practices, in 2001 Harmonie Stone received her Masters degree in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College.
Through her vast experience, gift of intuitiveness/touch, spiritual links, and people skills, Harmonie continues to help people achieve a greater sense of health and well being. She integrates a systematic, multi-dimensional approach to treatment including: listening to the client’s health issues and concerns, discussing the client’s medical history, and conducting a non-invasive hands-on examination. Based on her expertise, needle therapy, Chinese herbs, or other related modes are incorporated, as required, into a customized client plan. In addition, her background in psychology allows her to connect with her clients on yet another level offering them a chance to talk about what is in their hearts in the peaceful and stress-free environment that her office provides.
A member of Acupuncture Association of Colorado, American Massage Therapy Association, and the Conifer Area and Platte Canyon Area Chambers of Commerce, Harmonie Stone maintains her cutting-edge connection to the field of acupuncture through continuous education.
