Pet of the Month
Yavapai Humane Society
Salsa is a beautiful 8-year-old mustang mare, she hails from New Mexico where she picked up the survival need to be untrustworthy of humans and so naturally, when she arrived at Yavapai Humane Society’s Equine Center, she was afraid. However, her time spent at YHS has proved to be healing to her emotional wounds as she now sees how good humans can be and that with the right people around her, trust is easily deepened and restored. Salsa loved showing her handler that she knew how to lead and was comfortable with the familiar weight of a saddle. She can now be herself and expresses true joy that her colors can finally shine again! Salsa loves eating carrots and learning new things, she will flourish as the sole horse of one human whom she can give all her love and trust to. Salsa is a very special horse-just look at her name!
A note from Salsa: “My special human is out there, and I can’t wait to share a special bond with you. As long as you give me lots and lots of carrots, unconditional love and companionship, I promise to be there for and trust you always. I can’t wait to give you my love.”

From our Better Business Bureau
Here are some practical resolutions everyone can make to help keep their business, money and identity safe in 2019!
Resolve to be cautious with email. Be on guard if one receives unsolicited emails from a person or a company. Remember scammers can make emails look like they are from a legitimate business, government agency or reputable organization (even BBB!). Never click on links or open attachments in unsolicited emails.
Resolve to never send money to strangers. If one has not met a
person face-to-face, he or she should not send money. This is especially true if the stranger asks for a wire transfer using prepaid debit cards. Money sent in this way is untraceable and once it is sent, there is no getting it back. Likewise, do not handle money or make transfers for people met online; fraudsters can use people as a "money mule" to facilitate a crime.
Resolve to do research before making online payments and purchases. When shopping online or making an online payment, research before sending the funds. Ask: Is this a person or business I know and trust? Do they have a working customer service number? Where is the company physically located? Is this a secure server ( https://....com)? Have I checked on bbb.org to see if others have complained?
Resolve to use my best judgment when sharing personal information. Sensitive information includes banking and credit card info, birthdate, address, phone number and Social Security number. Consumers should never share their personal information with someone who has contacted them unsolicited and be cautious about sharing, at all times.
Resolve to be social media smart. Make use of privacy settings on social media sites and only connect with people you actually know. Be careful about including personal information in your profile and never post pictures
of your home or any identification card that reveals your address, phone, email, etc. and be wary of ads on social media which may lead to identity thef
If a consumer has been targeted by a scam, they can help others avoid the same problem by reporting their experience at bbb.org/ScamTracker. If one has been the victim of identity theft, he or she should go to identitytheft.gov for a personalized recovery plan.

YRMC: Dr. Francisco Jaume Earns Important Professional Certification
Francisco Jaume, DO, CWSP, is among a small number of physicians nationwide to earn the professional designation of Certified Wound Specialist Physician® (CWSP®) from the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM). An accomplished Wound Care Specialist, Dr. Jaume is the Medical Director of Advanced Wound Care at Yavapai Regional Medical Center(YRMC).
“Dr. Jaume’s latest achievement reinforces what we knew: that YRMC is fortunate to have such an outstanding, dedicated and caring Wound Care Specialist on our team,” said Anthony V. Torres, MD, FACP, Chief Medical Officer at YRMC. “Dr. Jaume is truly an asset to our entire community.”
According to the ABWM, successful completion of the CWSP exam is “formal recognition of a master level knowledge and specialty practice in wound management.”
The ABWM was established in 1995. The organization promotes the science of preventive care as well as the treatment of acute and chronic wounds. The ABWM monitors a national certification process and other activities dedicated to elevating the standard of care in the field of wound management.
At YRMC’s Advanced Wound Care, people with wounds that won’t heal receive a superior level of care from Dr. Jaume and the Advanced Wound Care team he leads. Dr. Jaume develops individualized patient care plans that combine the latest in wound care, a holistic approach to healthcare and preventive strategies for long term healing.

AMERICAN LEGION POST 6

The Four Chaplains, were four United States Army chaplains who gave their lives to save other civilian and military personnel as the troop ship SS Dorchester sank on February 3, 1943, during World War II. They helped other soldiers board lifeboats and gave up their own life jackets when the supply ran out. The chaplains, of four different religious beliefs, stood together arm in arm to aid their fellow

ASU Bachelor's Degree at Yavapai College
ASU@Yavapai: A partnership for student success
Arizona State University and Yavapai College have partnered together to offer bachelor degree programs in Yavapai County, beginning in 2019. Students can pursue an associate degree at Yavapai College and upon completion, transfer to the university and attend ASU classes available at two Yavapai College campuses.
Three bachelor degree programs
ASU, Yavapai College and Yavapai County community leaders identified three popular ASU degree programs that will provide students with knowledge and skills needed for career opportunities in the Yavapai community.
- Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Health Sciences
- Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Organizational Leadership
- Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Applied Leadership
The programs will help address Yavapai County’s workforce development needs — the degree in Health Sciences will help fill employment opportunities in the ever-growing and popular healthcare fields. The Applied Leadership and Organizational Leadership programs will prepare students to be leaders in business, government and nonprofit organizations.
Students will take lower-division courses through Yavapai College, then transfer to ASU. The university courses will be taught by ASU faculty, some of whom may be community college faculty as well as professionals in Yavapai County who are qualified to teach university-level courses.
For more information please visit admission.asu.edu/transfer/asuyavapai. Students who are interested in these programs are encouraged to contact an ASU representative who can help them with the transfer process.
