Groundhog Fever Festival

Quincy Chamber of Commerce

Since COVID-19 is still hitting us hard and the vaccination distribution is taking some time, the Quincy Chamber of Commerce has made the difficult decision to cancel the live Groundhog Fever Festival.

With the cancellation of so many live events we have all had to find new and different ways to still accomplish our goals of hosting fun events without actually having…an event.  That said, we are planning a virtual Groundhog Fever Festival to be up and playing on YouTube on Saturday, February 6th at 2:00 p.m.  You will see Chuck in all his furry glory from past social media posts, the award of the Honorary Mayor of Quincy (hmmmm…who do you think it’ll be?), Chuck’s world-famous winter prediction, the announcement of the winner of the mustache contest and more!

HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE:
Want to be part of the video?  We challenge YOU to come up with a fun contest of your own!  The competition must be between your household members, co-workers OR done outside and meet social distancing requirements.  Do you have an arm-wrestling state champ in your house?  How about a thumb-wrestling queen?  Can you balance a spoon on your nose for two full minutes?  Have your own pie-eating contest!  Whatever it is, make it fun, creative, quirky and zany (but not dangerous!)  Take a video of the contest and we might use it in our Groundhog Fever Festival video!  Video length must be no more than two minutes.  Email us at info@quincychamber.com and we’ll send you a DropBox link to submit your video.  Video submission deadline is Friday, January 29th

Do you have the biggest, baddest mustache around?  If not, want to make one?  Well say no more!  Have we got the contest for YOU!  Submit a photo of your face with your magnificent mustache to info@quincychamber.com by Friday, January 22nd.  All photos will be posted to our Facebook page at QuincyCAChamberofCommerce the week of January 25th.  Judging is by public opinion – the photo with the most likes wins!  Two categories to enter: adults and kids.  Winners will be announced in the YouTube video.  Be sure to include your name, town of residency, email address and category you’re entering in.

Contests are open to Plumas County residents only.  Sorry – no prizes other than lots of laughs, some HUGE bragging rights and perhaps becoming a YouTube sensation!

The video will premiere on YouTube on Saturday, February 6th at 2:00 p.m.  The YouTube link will be published the week of February 6th.  Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel at Quincy CA Chamber of Commerce to receive notification of when our videos are available.

Any questions please email us at info@quincychamber.com or call us at (530) 394-0541.

West End Theatre

Registration Open Now for The Magic Beanstalk Players virtual production of Dear Edwina Online Edition!

While dramaworks’ West End Theatre will remain closed to in-person drama classes this spring semester, we are excited to announce that we will be offering another online musical to rehearse and perform with our Magic Beanstalk Players, dramaworks youth theatre troupe.

Dear Edwina Online Edition follows the adventures of plucky advice-giver-extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple, as she directs the neighborhood kids in a series of buoyant production numbers for the latest edition of her weekly "Advice-a-Palooza.” Edwina and her friends share wisdom on everything from trying new foods to making new friends, through clever, catchy and poignant songs.

This production is open to third through eighth grade students. Rehearsals will be every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30 beginning January 19th. The production will be pre-recorded and broadcast mid-April. Tuition is $100 per student. Tuition assistance is available to qualifying families.

Go to www.dramaworks.us for more information and to register your student.

California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program Extended

CalChamber

The small business COVID-19 program offers grants of $5,000–$25,000, depending on the annual revenue of the small business, to help micro and small businesses adapt operations for the coronavirus. The grants will be distributed statewide, with priority given to regions and industries affected by the pandemic, disadvantaged communities and underserved small business groups. Nonprofits are eligible for these grants.

Owners of multiple businesses, franchises, locations, etc. will be considered for only one grant and are required to apply for the business with the highest revenue.

The first round of applications for the grant program began on December 30, 2020 and closes January 13 (an extension from the original closing date).

Approval notifications for the first round of applications will start on January 15, according to the website. Applicants who submitted their application and submitted all documentation in the first round do not need to reapply; qualified applications will be rolled over automatically into the next funding round for consideration.

Deadlines for the second round of applications had not be determined as this article was being written.

More information about eligibility requirements and the grant process are available at careliefgrant.com.
