Another Month, Another Free Book!

Quincy Literacy Program

April is another give away month at the Library. This month at all four branches we are having two giveaways. The first Spring Into Reading, the second giveaway is  a Blackout Poetry Project. Both giveaways are for all ages.

For Spring Into Reading patron's are asked to complete an activity page and return it to one of the Library's branches to receive a free book. The activity pages are available on the Library website and at each branch. Please call the Library if you have any questions.

For the Blackout Poetry project we are asking patrons to create a black out poem. We are providing the materials the patron provides the creativity in exchange for a free book. If a patron would like to do an activity page and a poem they could receive two books that day. One book per patron per project per day. There is a wide variety of books for patron's to choose from.

Visit California Stories Needed

Lisa May

Hi Everyone,

Below are the Visit California story topics for this month.  Deadline to email your story ideas to me is Sunday April 11th.  TJ will be out of the office for this deadline so just email to me this month and I will roll up our submissions to Visit California.

A reminder that your story ideas should be 150 words max.  If time is short you don’t have to write a paragraph.  A story idea can simply be a couple sentences plus a website, photo, and contact information for follow up if the Visit California team is interested in writing about your idea.

The information bulleted below must be included for Visit California to consider your submission.
•             Include 1-2 high res photos with your story and the name of the photographer for photo credits
•             Story idea (maximum 150 words), not a Press Release
•             Include a public contact including name, email, and phone number

Topics for this month:

  • Memorial Day Getaways & Deals - The unofficial start to summer is almost here. Share affordable deals in California tied to destinations where travelers can kick off the season.

  • Culture-Filled Getaways - As museums begin to welcome visitors once again, highlight any newsworthy cultural institutions, new openings and exhibits, or updated experiences.

  • See Yourself Outside - Representation is an important part of inspiration. Submit minority-owned outdoor businesses, guides and tour companies, along with local resources for travelers that make underrepresented communities feel at home in the outdoors.

As always I am here if you have questions and happy to help.

The National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Firewise USA Program encourages local solutions for safety by
involving homeowners in taking individual responsibility for preparing their homes from the risk of wildfire. Firewise
is a key component of Fire Adapted Communities or a collaborative approach that connects all those who play
a role in wildfire education, planning, and action with comprehensive resources to help reduce risk. To save lives and property from wildfire, NFPA's Firewise USA program teaches people how to adapt to living with wildfire and encourages neighbors to work together and take action now to prevent losses. For more details visit nfpa.org
