Community United Methodist Church

At long last, our return to in-person worship is FINALLY going to happen this Sunday, April 25.  In order to accommodate social distancing because of our space, we have two services, one at 9:00am in the fellowship hall and one at 10:30am in the sanctuary. At the same time, it will not be a matter of just showing up on Sunday morning, as you will be asked to RSVP each Thursday by 5:00pm and indicate if you will be at the 9:00am service in the fellowship hall or 10:30am service in the sanctuary and how many people will be with you so we can arrange the seating. The number to RSVP at is 530-283-5259 or by e-mail to mjtbyrne@gmail.com.

COVID-19 Financial Assistance

Clint Koble

Clint Koble, Advisor for the Sierra Small Business Development Center based in Truckee, CA, is announcing some current and soon-to-be announced avenues of financial assistance to small businesses that have suffered financially from COVID-19.

Koble says it is “IMPERATIVE” that small businesses contact him or the Sierra SBDC for guidance for assistance.

1. The PPP (Payment Protection Plan) Loan Program (federal) has been extremely popular and relatively easy for small businesses to apply for, providing they can show a 25% loss in gross revenues in at least one quarter of 2020 compared to 2019. If implemented correctly, small businesses can apply for debt forgiveness. Application for these low interest loans that can be converted to grants must be received by May 31, 2021.

2. Round 6 (final round) of the CA Small Business COVID-19 Grant Relief Program starts on April 28, 2021 and end on May 4, 2021. These are grants that are easy for small businesses to implement once received. You cannot apply early.

3. Soon to be announced will be assistance for Family-Owned Restaurants. Details before the end of the month.

4. Also soon to be announced will be assistance for Rural Medical Providers. Details before the end of the month.

Don’t forget our FREE monthly workshops and webinars. You must register by going to
www.sierrasbdc.com; open the Home Page, and Click on Calendar at the upper left of the screen. Scroll down to the left and sign up for the session of your choice.

And, the Sierra SBDC offers FREE one-on-one small business consulting for assistance
with your existing or future small business. We can help you with your business plan,
funding, marketing plans etc.

Planning a Brewery Tour in Reno?

Sierra Charters

If you like gooey cheese and cold beer, then you’re going to love
Great Basin Brewing Company
. This local brewery is the oldest in the state of #Nevada. When you go, make sure to order the famous Ichthyosaur “Icky” IPA, named after the fossil specimens found in central Nevada of a reptile that went extinct more than 200 million years ago. They also have rotating #seasonalbeers and a menu that will have you struggling to decide what to order. (We like the beer cheese soup and the nachos, but you can’t really go wrong.) 🍻

You tour...we'll drive.🤝 Need help planning? We have itinerary ideas! info@sierracharters.com.

Message from the boss regarding phone orders and to-go orders

Quintopia

Dear valued customer,

I have made the difficult decision to discontinue phone orders for to-go food, to better serve our customers visiting our taproom in person. As a popular craft beer and food establishment, we strive to provide an excellent experience to our guests, including preparing food as promptly as we are able.

During busy periods we have found that staff are excessively tied up on the telephone taking orders, often keeping in-person guests waiting to be served. Additionally, the kitchen workflow is slowed down with the extra steps of packaging to-go food, increasing wait times unacceptably for our dine-in customers. Our kitchen is very small! And we need to streamline things whenever possible.

Although a tremendous rise in phone and to-go orders served us and our community well during the height of the COVID-19 restrictions, I feel that it is now time to focus on the best customer experience we can offer by expediating our dine-in food service.

I realize this decision may not be well received by everyone, but I appreciate your understanding.

Regards, Tom

Spring Sustainability Symposium Series - Environment + Race: Recreation Access & Perspectives on Public Lands
04/22/2021
07:00 PM - 09:00 PM P
Feather River College
570 Golden Eagle Avenue
Quincy, CA 95971

For Earth Day, Thursday April 22nd, the series will culminate with a panel of speakers sharing their experiences with recreation as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).

Faith E. Briggs is a film-maker and producer who is passionate about sharing contemporary stories from diverse communities. Her inspiring film “This Land” will be shown at the event and while she Zooms in from her home in Portland.

Mario Guel is the founder of Taco Fly Co., a fly-fishing lifestyle brand. Mario loves fly fishing, and Mario loves tacos! His focus on opening up a stuffy white activity to more folks from right here in Plumas County is pretty inspiring.

Nizhoni O’Connell grew up in Greenville in a mixed-race family: her mother is Navajo, her father from Irish descent. She attended FRC in the Outdoor Recreation Leadership program, then went on to Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.

This diverse group will help the audience find common ground, acknowledge that racism exists in the recreation field, and feel more open to discussion about the topic. DeRuiter, also a professor of Environmental Studies and Outdoor Recreation Leadership, will host the event.

For more information on any events in the series, contact DeRuiter at dderuiter@frc.edu or 530.283.0202 x262.

Are you a small business owner who would like to manage your own social media marketing (or perhaps understand better what you're hiring someone for)? My next class is for you! Open to the public, this one-hour live Zoom class will be next Wednesday at noon. Space is limited!
More info: 👉 Small business owners face a unique challenge when it comes to marketing- you don’t have the resources to hire a professional marketing company, but you’re also so busy running your business that you don’t have the time to figure it out yourself. As part of the Business of Art series, this class will provide simple step-by-step plans you can do on your own time and your own budget. Promoting yourself is never easy, let’s take the pain out of the process and learn the secrets the big marketing companies don’t want you to know!
To register: https://bit.ly/32zkMNB
This intro class will teach participants:
- How to build your brand online with social media, storytelling, and calls-to-action
- An overview of the most used social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, etc., and an exploration of which ones will work best for you
- How to set up your accounts (i.e. the differences between business and personal pages, groups, and events), how to build accounts that grow, and what mistakes to avoid
- A guide to WHAT to post, WHERE, and WHEN to post it
- Participants will learn simple social media hacks to save time and also the basic rules of each platform to make sure you don’t get put in ‘Instagram Jail’ (this is a thing…). If time allows, we will dip into data to view what is working and what’s not.
Participants will leave with a concrete to-do list to get started and will receive a downloadable PDF of ‘What to Post’ as well as a ‘Content Calendar.’
This class is presented online through Zoom. The class link will be emailed one day before the start of the class and part II will be offered the following week. Thank you to Steamboat Creates for hosting this series!
