Going Green Commitments
- Both Motel and Guest House use High Efficiency (HE) Washer and Dryers throughout and incandescent lighting has been replaced with flourescent bulbs everywhere practical. The Guest House uses environmentally friendly laundry soap and fabric softener; has dual flush toilets in all bathrooms; is using recycled decking for a raised bed garden that will primarily be filled with compost from the Port of Tillamook Bay Digester, which recycles local cow waste by sterilizing it and converting it into high yielding bedding material.

Locally Owned Motel Good Option (07/08/09)
The owner of the Sea Haven Motel in Rockaway Beach in Tillamook County took it upon herself to flag my attention: come stay in Rockaway Beach and see the north Oregon coast from there, she invited in her Oregon travel tip posted as a comment on my blog.
Alas, I had already made plans for nights in Seaside and Newport, but I told her I would stop by to visit.
The Sea Haven is a small, six-room motel, right on U.S. 101's east side at 520 Hwy 101. I don't usually like staying so close to a busy highway, but after looking over the Sea Haven, I think I would give it a chance. The phone number is 503-355-8101.
The rooms are furnished just like home, with a rental rate that is considerably less expensive ($59 to $109, depending on the day of week and the number of nights rented) than the big boys up and down the street.
All of the rooms have fully furnished kitchens and most have DVD players with the TV. An assortment of quick snacks await those who arrive famished, or you can use the gas barbecue or crab cooker to satisfy your appetite.
The pet friendly motel is owned and managed by Maureen and Jeff Taylor, who escaped from Portland after 30-year careers and settled on the coast to run a small apartment building. They converted the apartments to nightly rentals as occupants moved elsewhere. Each room got a major overhaul and upgrade before entering the nightly rental pool.
The Taylors own a dog and cat, who just might be your friend if you don't bring along a pet. If you do, the $10 extra fee is donated to the county animal shelter.
The best way to find a small motel is to look for yourself when you're visiting the coast. The owners won't mind if you ask to check them out. Also, every beach town has an Internet visitor site that lists lodgings. This will give you names, info and photos, but it helps when you stop by to meet the owners.

About Us
Come enjoy our clean, non-smoking, pet friendly motel. Each unit has a fully stocked kitchen, flooring that is easy care (ceramic tile and laminate style) and a décor similar to a “bed & breakfast” (sorry, w/o the breakfast). Most rooms have two TV's with 60 channel cable television and every room has a DVD player plus access to free Wi-Fi.
Just recently we added a six bedroom "bed & breakfast" style Guest House on the north side of the Motel. The Guest House has five private bedrooms downstairs and one larger one upstairs. Most bedrooms have a queen bed, flat screen TV, DVD player, small desk and a closet, sleeping 1-2 adults. The guests all share the common space, which includes the kitchen, bathrooms, living room and outdoor common space. The upstairs bedroom is larger
The Guest House can also be rented for private events, such as family reunions, club gatherings, educational groups, etc. The Guest House sleeps 17 ( 5 queen beds, five twin beds and one full size futon). The motel sleeps a maximum of 24. Together they will accomodate 41 guests. All or a portion can be reserved for a private event.
