Shop Small Saturday November 24

Becki Day

This Saturday, and every day, you have the opportunity to support local businesses by shopping local. It is a huge boost to our community. It is one of the top job creators. Each dollar you spent locally in a small business has a big impact. 73cents of it stays right here on San Juan Island. This same 73 cents will circle our community on average 3.5 times. The benefit becomes $2.52 for every dollar generated by a small business. This is your buying power. This is your choice. This local shopping provides, wages, donations back to the community, helps fund local taxes that provide our schools and stimulates more economic growth. What an impact your dollar has when spent locally. Let us keep our wonderful community growing. Shopping local also promotes greater customer service and entrepreneurship. Shop small, shop local!

The Whale Museum Seeks a Collections Volunteer

The Whale Museum is seeking a long-term Collections Volunteer. The volunteer would be involved in two projects. The first is updating the Sightings database, which involves transferring data from printed hard copies to a computer database. The second is tagging historical images. The museum recently digitized images from the early orca surveys. The volunteer will tag the images with keywords that will enable the images to be queried and used in orca identification. We are looking for someone who will become an expert in the tags and really make the project their own.

A Big Thank You

San Juan Historical Society and Museum

The Board of Trustees and staff of the San Juan Historical Society and Museum would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Town of Friday Harbor Council and Mayor Farhad Ghatan for the new Historical Museum directional sign at the corner of Spring and Price St.

Even though the museum has been located on Price St., since 1966, it can be a little difficult to find us the old-fashioned way. Thankfully, the handsome sign has made an immediate impact in helping to guide visitors our way.

Sincerely,

Board of Trustees

San Juan Historical Society and Museum
